Question ...If Strong couldn't hire a quality offensive staff at Texas... what make you think he will at Miami?

JC

Ah there we have it another person with a "fit" excuse. So just to remind the board, that is translated into: he's black.

I find it quite racist when people insinuate that Strong couldn't succeed somewhere BECAUSE he's black. "No no Charlie. You come over here where I think you'll do better.". That's a pretty dangerous mindset and one based at minimum on a complete fallacy. Surrrrre, a Sumlin or Shaw or even a Babers would have them end up not even being bowl eligible this year? Strong had his shot and he blew it. It had nothing to do with any good ol boys or the exaggerated poor state that Brown left the program in.
I'm glad others are calling out the Strong support for what it is.

These veiled "fit" arguments are ridiculous.

Where is the poll for Richt? Where is the poll for Herman? Where is the poll for....? Come on guys.

Surprised 17.95% want Strong to be the next coach. Thought it'd be a lower percentage.

Bet that percentage would drop if we ran this poll again after they play Texas Tech and Baylor.

The reality is some people have this absurd mindset that bc Charlie is black it will help him recruit South Florida better. As if we haven't experienced that EXACT failed mentality just five years ago. The best recruiter I ever saw was a redneck old guy from Birmingham named Bobby.

Have you met Randy and Charlie? I have. I actually think Randy is a more personable guy. He was a better DC than Charlie ever was. He was from Miami. He was a true Cane. He was black. AND NONE OF IT MATTERED. Just like it wouldn't with Strong. Hiring Strong would be the end of the line.

I will pass, I use think he would be a good fit but these last few weeks with these nobodies with half the talent run up the score on him made me change my mind . It reminded me of golden

This is what a lot of the BBB guys have been saying: bring back Butch because left on their own the administrators at this school will **** up this hire and end up giving us a bad HC, like Strong. The rest of you have been clamoring for home runs knowing **** well it ain't going to happen with this admin.

BBB! It will make us great again, and is the safest choice!!

It won't drop. Those are your supreme heel diggers. They won't change their opinion regardless.

Here's why people say he's a bad fit at Texas and a better fit here:

- He built elite defenses at South Carolina, Florida and Louisville. They played with swagger and were dominant. His defense at Texas is bad. I believe Texas is the outlier. Considering the makeup of Miami's roster and talent base, I believe we will be closer to the first three examples.

- Texas has horrible quarterbacks in a conference where you need a good quarterback. We have a good quarterback.

- The Texas high school coaches turned on him because he said he wanted to focus his recruiting in Florida. We are located in the state of Florida.

- The boosters were against Strong from the start, as were many of the fans. The Texas job is notorious for its glad-handing and media requirements. Miami doesn't have those issues.

- Texas is the most overrated program in all of sports. Aside from one year with Vince Young, they have been underachieving losers for 40 years. We are Miami and will win big whenever we have a good coach.

I believe Strong is a good coach and can win here. I understand why others disagree. A small minority are motivated by race. You can tell who they are because they are the first to bring it up. Most are simply turned off by what happened at Texas. I can understand that.

But fit and circumstances need to be considered when evaluating any coach. Chris Peterson was a miracle worker at Boise State and is currently 2-5 in the Pac-10 with Washington. Rich Rodriguez was our dream coach until he flopped at Michigan. Gary Patterson was "exposed" as a coach when TCU moved to the Big 12, and now he's the toast of football. Howard Schnellenberger was an outright failure as a head coach until he got to Miami.

Some people are taking too black and white of an approach to Strong. Are there concerns about his ability to build a staff and an offense? Absolutely. But to compare his track record to someone like Shannon is asinine. He has had a ton of success across several programs.

Would he be successful here? Who knows. I think he would fix our defense, have us playing with toughness and energy, and stock up our roster with talent. I have concerns about his offense, which is why he's third on my list. But he would definitely be a better fit here than the ****hole in Austin.

Those are great things to look at. I'd rather have players and championships.

How is a man who coached in small towns his entire career a fit here?

His defenses at UF and SC were as a coordinator. Randy is a good coordinator. Should we rehire him?

His recruiting in SFl is the result of Clint Hurtt, who is now banned from the NCAA.

What does glad handling have to do with coaching football? Do you realize how pathetic it is that a man can't coach bc some people dont like him?

The only people who are racist are those who make endless excuses for a failed coach, and even think he is somehow a fit for a program he never coached at in an environment he never coached at simply bc his skin is brown. It's pathetic.

You "believe" he's a good coach b/c u like him, and want to believe in. His record says otherwise.

Randy was twice the coordinator, was actually from here, and coached here. But he sucked too. DMoney, if Charlie Strong was white you wouldn't give even a moment's thought to hiring him. You knw it, I know it. The whole board knows it. It's disgusting how you would put your personal agenda over the betterment of the program. No intelligent, rational fan would want an 8 loss Texas failure.

I'm asking this, respectfully:

How is Charlie Strong any different from Will Muschamp?

And would you hire Will Muschamp?

He's black? Other than that, no idea. Muschamp actually was better at UF than Strong at UT. There are an army of coaches better than Strong. But curiously, despite having no actual ties to the program or area, and despite being a rural small town coach his whole career, people see him as a "fit".
