Do We Really Need Another Portal QB in ’26?

After reflecting on Beck! At some point, Miami’s gotta decide who we are as a program. Are we gonna keep chasing another “name” QB every year, or finally trust the recruits we’ve recruited and developed?

We’ve got some talented young guys already in the room — kids who’ve been learning the system and waiting for their shot. If we keep bringing in portal QBs, how are we ever gonna build continuity or develop the next leader from within?

And let’s be honest — a big-time QB from the portal isn’t coming cheap. The NIL price tag for one of those guys could easily go toward stacking up WRs who can separate or adding more depth on the defensive line, where we need consistent pressure and playmakers.

You can have a Heisman-level QB ( Not Beck) but if he’s throwing to 1 excellent WR and average receivers or getting hit every other play, it doesn’t matter. Build the trenches, get some dogs at receiver, and let one of our own QBs lead.

At some point, you’ve gotta trust your own talent instead of always looking for a quick fix.
7 of the Top 10 teams in the country and 10 of the Top 15 have portal quarterbacks (counting Sayin).

So, yes, absolutely we need another one next year. And the year after that. And the year after that too.

Have you seen Luke play? If we aren’t going to ever let the QBs we recruit play then don’t take any and use the money for the portal and the spots for other areas of need.
I got a feeling that if Luke doesn’t at least get a shot this spring he’s gone.Emory? He sucks so he can do whatever he wants.
Luke has a chance, but he has to learn what he can do and can’t do. So far that’s been a give-and-take.

Short answer yes. Real answer, probably. Why spend 2+Mil on a top-tier high school QB when we've had no real success developing them vs spending the extra 1-2Mil and getting a guy we know is good?

We have had nobody to develop tbh

Dawson hasn’t proven he can develop HS talent at QB, I mean every back up we’ve seen has looked awful under Dawson. I say if you can get a sure fire starter in the portal at the most important position you absolutely do it, especially considered Miami is a QB destination spot with the constant good OL play and track record

I’m the guy that said Beck would take the check down all off-season. I guess we forget that Cam had a bad game once against George Tech and we lost that game. I guess we forgot that huh?
No you said our offense would be better and more efficient because of the magical check down

Yes we need a portal QB. Who has Mario recruited that says yes trust that guy? Same with Dawson.

Anyone remember Alin Eduardo or whatever his name was? Mario wanted him when he was here under Al Golden for 2 months.

I still expect Nickel to start if not next year than the following season. I would assume any one else who saw him play in high school expects the same.

Yes. Although I have high hopes for Nickel.
Just don’t know if anyone on this staff can develop a QB. Guess we will find out soon enough

10000000000% yes. You need a QB with enough brains and balls to change the playcalls coming from the offensive coordinator committee. A QB without a good amount of starting experience isn’t going to have the leeway or credibility to do that. That’s probably the most expedient way to fix the Cristobal offense- have a QB who ignores it.

Cue now old hag Barbra,

Cam bad game was 25/39(64%) 348 yards 3tds 0ints
You can't blame Mario because the defense was ***. He didn't hire the DC or know that our DBs were *** during the offseason last year.

We lost to a team where their QB couldn't move his throwing arm.

Dawson hasn’t proven anything except Cam Ward is really great. And we don’t know for sure if Dawson had a single thing to do with it. Our offense hasn’t been good with anybody but Cam so far.
