Do Mirabal/Mario

i believe he said himself that AM schemes the run game

That's why I infer as well. Alex (and Mario to an extent) is the run game coordinator. He creates the schemes, puts it in the playbook, etc. My guess is that Mirabal gives Shannon the playcalls to incorporate into Dawson's call sheet for that game and Dawson calls them when he sees fit.

I have seen a lot of discussion between the 2 on the sideline so I'm wondering how much input Mirabal has in the playcalling.

the one run we called when we got to the redzone after the big Toney screen/run and settled for a field goal was mindboggling. it was 1st and goal from the 9 and we just ran it to the middle of the defense like we were gonna power our way for 9 yards. just a wasted play.

We have a lot of those. I forgot to add one more thing - Mirabal creates the run schemes, gives Shannon the playcalls and Shannon calls them during the game. Then of course there's the wild card - Mario. At certain key points in the game, I have no doubt Mario tells Shannon when to run it.

the center may be an issue, another reason to rethink the scheme

This is Dawson's third year here. He's an older, established guy that has been around and can easily find a job elsewhere. The idea that Mario/Mirabal are stepping on his toes to the degree suggested on this board as it relates to the run game strains credulity. Otherwise, he'd be gone. Because no one wants someone looking over their shoulder the way folks on this board are suggesting.
My brother, this is oversimplified. Dawson has essentially said as much. It all goes together - splits, formations, insistence on staying on schedule. It's not just "they're making me run these run plays or make these calls."

Here's what I will tell you. In his first 2 years here, Dawson never once publicly mentioned that Mirabal controls the run scheme. He has now done it twice this year. Why do you think he would all of the sudden do that? Now I can't speak to that with any certainty as of now, but that sounds to me like an OC who wants it known, that this mindless run game is not his.

Now, what I can tell you with certainty is, that this is not Dawson run scheme. That it is indeed dictated by Alex and Mario.

I posted in another thread, in the month of October (basically ACC play):

-131st in rushing yards/game
-123rd in rushing yards per attempt
-134th in penalties/game (only one team is below us)
-80th in sacks/game
-73rd in TFL/game

Those are all the things Mario is supposed to be the best in the country at, strength and discipline in the trenches. Something is seriously, seriously, seriously broken. It's not the players. The players are good enough to not be generating these kinds of stats. It is the scheme and the coaching.

I can't figure out why they are so afraid of being knocked off schedule in the first place.

We aren't a service academy.

I would absolutely love to better understand that perspective. Every good offense I've ever watched occasionally falls off schedule. That's the whole **** point of also occasionally being explosive.

I played in a WingT. Even within that craziness, you need misdirection and "risky" plays - buck sweep, criss cross, etc. - because putting together 15 play 80 yard drives is just not a sustainable long-term approach against any decent enough team.

It seems mfing 60s Green Bay Packers might be too risky for us... at least lately.

I personally dont believe so just for the simple fact if you watch tape of Dawson's offenses at Houston the running plays dont look that much drastically different than what we've seen here. Here watch

This video was painful to watch. Split screen with Judge mlb stuff.

What I couldn't tell, tempo/no temp? Assuming Yes as Houston had 81 plays to Tulane's 54 yet Tulane had 13:50 more minutes with the ball.
#2 runner: Tune their QB
Talent difference between G5 and Miami is massive.
The Houston RB hits the outside a ton more in the first 3-4 minutes. Maybe our RBs just lack vision? HA

Houston was 2-3, Tulane 4-1. Had Bubba Baxa gone 2/3 vs 1/3 on FGs, Houston wins.

Watch Oregon tape and you’ll have your answer. There is only one coach in America dumb enough to intentionally motion in WR lead blockers as a mater of identity and his name isn’t Shannon Dawson.
I’ve never seen anywhere else. WR in motion to lead block. Ugh.

But maybe I’ve had too many coffee, but anyone notice how Dmoney don’t ever say anything about Mirabel? Hmmm…

To me, this run game scheme is as much of an abomination as our defense scheme was last year. It’s what is stopping us from being undefeated.

Mirabel needs to stick to technique only.

This running scheme is the problem with this run game. Last year, Cam Ward, made our run game look better than what it was. Fletcher and Brown aren’t no Martinez but even then, is it their fault we are asking them to run into nothing but bodies constantly? The defense knows exactly what we are going to do; therefore, it makes it that much more difficult to execute the run. We can’t even execute with Lyle.

This year, teams figured us out and they are making Beck beat us. Miami has the 80th rushing offense in the nation with the “best OL” and “NFL QB” in the nation.
