On today’s show, DMoney was talking about yesterday’s 2 commits and how they’re two highly rated players from Alabama and North Carolina and how these are two players who would’ve lined up for Alabama and Clemson a few years ago when they were playing for National Championships.

It kind of put it in perspective how much we’ve upgraded the talent.

More importantly the myth of locking down SFLA isn't the only focus. To many coaches have come here believing that we need to have a roster full of Florida boys. National recruiting was always the answer.
When you hire a coach who has strong SFL ties but really cut his teeth at a National Powerhouse who didn’t have the luxury of just focusing on local talent. They had to go out and go get it… and did that at the highest of levels.

Mario isn't worried about appealing to the locals. The days of appeasing are over as long as the winning continues.

We are getting back to the notion where being on a Miami roster actually means something. Being a south Florida athlete doesn’t guarantee you anything. We should accept only the best of the best. That is the differentiating motivator for local kids who want to be the best vs those who just want to show up for the free U logo tshirts

i think this is the benefit of having hired Mario after he did a stint at Bama and then built something at Oregon vs getting him earlier like after FIU. But **** what a wait that was.

To me, locking down South Florida doesn’t mean ignoring national elites. It just means that kids like Toney, Fletcher and Bain stay home.

And if we’re really locking down South Florida, Jeremiah Smith and Fernando Mendoza are holding up number six in orange and green.

UM is no longer at their mercy to take their 3 stars "or else"...now best players lead the way to Miami not away from it

This is what it should mean. Guys like Manny were locking down SFLA by bringing in players just because they were 4*. The contenders go after the best everywhere. Idc about missing on the top SFLA guys as much when they are replaced with the top Alabama guy or Cali, etc... I fully embrace the strategy this is big boy crooting.

The prior coaches were a little different because we had no ability to recruit nationally. They lacked the recruiting chops, the bag money, or both. So the national guys we got were mostly leftovers who played even worse than the local guys.

The reason the local misses hurt so much back then is that they were low-hanging fruit. Now, we can get anybody. And when we're choosing from a position of strength, there's still a ton of value in local three stars like Malachi Toney, Ahmad Moten and OJ Frederique.

Yeah imagine the answer was just “recruit better players” the entire time

I think the answer was "pay more for coaches" and "pay the players without fear of a CNN investigation."
I think the answer was always an administration that actually cared about and put priority on the football program . Those things you mentioned are the byproduct of that shift .

It’s all some of us were yelling about on these boards for years , finally manifested .

That viewpoint has been highlighted on the recruiting board. It's a huge shift, even though it seems to be a down year for bama talent in general.

Yup. I was really 50/50 on Mario but just the overall investment was all I cared about. We were dangerously close to being left behind and we went all in. Mario turning things around is literally the best case scenario and now years like 2022 can be set aside

I think our ability to eval and develop are a huge component to all this. Yes the pay and incentive structures are there now, but kids didn’t trust us to get to their highest potential. They do now
