Have we ever hired a proven coach? No. Jeremy Pruitt might be a great hire.

Clueless false post.

READ UP ON THE **** HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL BEFORE MAKING IDIOTIC STATEMENTS LIKE THIS. Just b/c we don't hire Saban post LSU type hires, doesn't mean we havent hired elite football coaches.

Not a lot of proven coaches would come here...

Yet they came here in the late 70s when this program hadn't even won a single title. Do you realize how stupid you sound when you make these baseless claims?

Miami hired back to back underqualified coaches b/c they were lazy, they thought it's an autopilot job, they were primarily concerned with good behavior and grades, and mostly b/c they desperately want to put "the U" behind them and become a nerdy basketball school.

If this school wanted to they could hire a championship NFL coordinator, or a championship college coordinator who cut his teeth at a smaller program first, or an innovative ahead of his time x's and o's guy. They did it FOUR TIMES in a row.

He has, however, given MANY subtle shots over the last 2 years. If you read his posts closely it's easy to see he's not a fan of the staff.

Bring in kiffin he learned his lesson

Please, no. This entire program's Administration needs a "come to Jesus" moment. It's only then when we'll get back to our roots. Those roots have nothing to do with what is popular or bringing someone back who's already associated with the program. Make a ******* decision about what kind of program we want to be. The current version is not working and does not help the University's brand anyway.

I think East Carolina's head coach Ruffin McNeil is the real deal. He put together a team from nothing. East Carolina hung up 70 on North Carolina and beat VT in Blacksburg the week before. Have you guys seen those athletes he has, especially on offense? No he's not proven, but he has something special brewing at that school. Watch how that guy lands a big time job after this season. If Al gets the axe, the AD should give this guy a look...

He's not leaving his alma mater Texas Tech for a $600,000 pay cut. Butch is the only combination of proven winner, cheap, and available that makes sense. He is the answer.

who is this guy?

Kliff Kingsbury.

To add to that, I don't think Butch would view UM as a stepping stone to something greater like an NFL gig or a bigger college program. (He's been there, done that.) I could see him coming in and staying here until he decides to retire...hopefully after a few NC's. :based-duke2: :raylewis:

He wouldn't leave. He's 62 going on 63. 63 year olds usually don't get hired in the NFL.

Truth. Erickson and Davis weren't cutting their teeth at Toledo. Pac-10 and NFL. And Jimmy was Big 8.
I don't believe you are saying Jimmy, Butch, Erickson, Coker were were proven head coaches. I really didn't think it was even debatable. We hired guys that turned out to be elite. I am 100% confident that our next coach will not have a proven head coaching resume. Then again I WAS 100% sure Golden was the right guy. So there's that.

Yes lets hire a defensive coach who never had a good defense in his career. Makes sense.

How about not hiring people based on winning two games against classic bedwetter teams?

He actually improved Texas Techs defense a good deal while he was defensive coordinator under Mike Leach

How old are you, legit question? Do you have any idea what JJ, Howard, and Butch's resumes looked like? They were all stellar in their pedigree, all had been champions as coordinators either in college or the NFL. Guys like Chad Morris, Cliff Kingsbury, Ruffin McNeil, Cristobal: none of them remotely compare to what JJ/Butch/Howard were at the time of their hiring. How people still fail to see the difference amazes me.

Like I keep saying, we need the next Butch, the next Jimmy Johnson, the next Pete Carroll, etc. Ruffin McNeil sure seems like a candidate for that.

When did you say proven HEAD coaches? Those guys were all proven coaches, with the exception of Coker.

His grand total two seasons as a DC he had the 49th and 80th ranked defenses. Yes, let's roll out the carpet for him bc he beat UNC who has a corch as bad as golden at the helm.

I been sayin' this for a while. ECU get's the NC recrujits after UNC, NCS, and probably Duke, Wake Forest and USC heck he probably loses western Carolina boys to App State - does more with less.

Butch, JJ, and Carroll all were championship coordinators under legendary coaches. Ruffin McNeil's resume is nothing even remotely close to those three.

Fck that attitude. Al Golden even did more with less. And look where that got us. How about giving me a guy who punches Texas or Ohio State or LSU in the mouth, even if he loses. That's the guy I want. Forget this sht about "he didn't have as much talent as UNC". Fck UNC. UNC sucks. Give me someone who knows what big time football is like.

Well, you asked for it, and they responded.

Cheers for Andrew and Pete!

They have more guts than the other sites and QAM, all falling over eachother in their vitriol against anyone who criticizes their god, Golden, and aping excuses for him.

There is a reason I am on CIS and no other Canes Board.

Best Canes Board on the planet.

Everyone should be thankful for their work.

Subtle? I've written more substantive (or, at least, attempted) critiques of what we see on the field than just about anyone on here. What else do I need to do? DannyBoyCane video rant? What happens on the field is what should matter. If it doesn't work in a way that means something, which is to say for meaningful games, we need to change it. People told me we'd adjust this year with improved talent. Then we saw a replica of the bowl in the first game of the season. Our next halfway decent opponent? A replica of the Duke game last year.

The data all points in one direction.
