DJ Uiagalelei talks Clemson and Oregon State

I’ll be pretty surprised if DJ suddenly becomes a great college QB at Oregon State. The track record on two-year starting QBs who get benched at his first school going on to display greatness after transferring isn’t very strong. Can anyone think of someone who fits that profile? There aren’t very many of them.

Jalen Hurts is the only one that I can think of.

None of those guys are/were considered "crappy" college QBs. They were all pretty well regarded...higher than their YPA would indicate.

All I was trying to show was that I agreed with @mirvin88 that DJU is being a little too harshly critiqued here. He's not great...but his numbers last year weren't unworthy of playing P5 football as many here are just roasting him after he said he thought he wasn't used well at Clemson. Considering Clemson has lost the offensive staff that made Lawrence and Watson so good...its not a stretch to think he's on to something.

Cade Klubnik threw for 7.0 ypa and had a 2/3 TD:INT ratio and Clemson just hired a new outside of the system playcaller. It's not that the idea is baseless.

Listen, the dude completed 66% of his passes, 322 total yards & 3 TDs against us. I’m not going to be in the biz of criticizing anyone or any team that’s taken us to the wood shed. I don’t live in a glass house.

DJ had some personal issues while at Clemson, & regressed immediately thereafter. He’s a really good kid that comes from a good household that turned upside down. Do I think he’s the 5* QB he was coming out? No, but is he a solid blue chipper based upon his pure stats? Sure. I just hope he finds happiness in life.

Hendon Hooker

BeeGee Ukulele just isn't a very good quarterback and it was a poor evaluation by Clemson. I am glad he is getting another shot, but you're delusional if you believe he was going to be the starting QB for Dabo Goldenkiller again.

His analysis of NFL QBs sound a lot like a CIS porsters', in the face of all evidence.

One year starting QB...Baker Mayfield. Replaced by Davis Webb (who eventually would lose his starting job in 2015 to some guy named Pat Mahomes and Davis Webb would transfer to Cal and eventually be a Day 3 pick by the NY Giants).

Did he get benched at Va Tech? I don’t recall.
He and Braxton Burmeister (another guy that ended up transferring) were playing together and IIRC, it was assumed that Burmeister was getting the job.

'20 VaTech had Hendon Hooker and Khalil Herbert on that team. Wild.

I had completely forgotten about Braxton the Burgermeister.
