DJ Uiagalelei talks Clemson and Oregon State

He was bad for 2 years in the same offensive style Watson and Lawrence thrived in. In the ACC championship against UNC when they switched to Klubnik the team suddenly came alive and dominated.

I stopped reading when he suggested Clemson wasn't a scheme fit. I'm not knocking the young man, but, at Oregon State, he will hand the ball off 40+ times a game. If that scheme fits him better, than so be it.

But, Clemson wasn't the problem for Watson or Lawrence
Exactly. Wasn't a problem for Kelly Bryant either. It's not like he was some scrub. I thought he played well while at Clemson, just happened that a generational talent beat him out for the starting job.

So I’ll just say it; No DJ, u were the problem.

Listen, I’m not going to put his family’s biz out there, but it’s much more to why he was struggling than just “scheme” fit. He looked outstanding as a true freshman & then fell off. His head wasn’t completely in the game b/c there was hella drama in his personal life.

Clemson’s scheme produced 3 back to back to back NFL QBs, including back to back 1st round picks. When DJ was pulled, Cade seemed to fair much better. Just hoping the young man is in a great mental space, first & foremost. I’m not saying Dabo is on the lines of Riley, but there’s a reason 5 star QBs have been lining up for those two specifically. Again, hope DJ finds success at Oregon State, & all goes well, but didn’t too much care for the blame game. He needed to shoulder that responsibility, too.

I mean maybe he didn’t fit well in the scheme, but at the same time he was ***. And it’s not like that scheme hasn’t had success b4.

Still interested to see how he fairs with a scheme and coaches he likes

Trevor Lawrence is a special human being, but he had trouble adapting to the NFL. Part of that was terrible HC (Meyer) and OC (Schottenheimer), but thernoe was a steep learning curve for him that required a massive overhaul and emphasis on him in the next coaching staff (Pederson, Mike McCoy, Press Taylor) and even then, he needed to start all over again in his development. He's just a freak and by mid-season started to get it.

DJU with a face turn in this article. Seems like a well thought out player that had some self-awareness.

I like watching the Beavs under Jonathan Smith. Fun team. Good vibe. Hope DJU plays well out there.
Clemson runs a gimmick offense.

Been runing the same sh-t since Tajh Boyd was at qb. Everything horizontal and gimmicky.

Thats why its been plug n play for them on offense. This dude isnt that good but he has soke right in there and i never thought he was a scheme fit there..big lumbering runner..accuracy issues etc.

He seem like a qb that would work well with Dan Mullen

Hit the nail on the head with Mullen comment. He’s the prototypical Mullen QB.

yep. There was some talk briefly on their 247 boards about his other 'distractions'. Felt bad for the kid.

I remember all 3 SoCal QBs from 3 years ago in high school: DJ, CJ Stroud and Bryce Young. All three left Cali for their opportunities at Clemson, Ohio St and Bama.

DJ was by far the most impressive physically. Huge guy. Dominating in high school. Now? Needs his confidence back. Can he prosper at Oregon St? Who knows. But this interview makes me question his judgment. Praising Oregon St. is great. Trashing Clemson is pointless and low class.

It's interesting that, conversely to DJ, the least physically impressive guy, B. Young, has played the position the best because of his intelligence, recognition/reads, and temperament. If I were counseling DJ, I would have urged him to attend that Dodgers tryout.

Just seemed like DJ took forever to process what he was seeing downfield. As if he had no feel whatsoever for playing QB.

I was like, "why the **** doesn't Clemson move this kid to tight end already."

Uiageleilei's comments are kind of ironic considering Swinney seemed to be bending over backwards to let DJ stay QB1 despite his struggles

This nikka better ball out the way he talking ****!! 😂
But he right though, they ain’t run the same often Jesus ran up there! Ugaleilei’s freshman year he came in when Jesus got hurt and balled out. Should’ve kept running that same ****.

Ehhh, schemes make no name guys at Hawaii & Texas Tech throw for a million yards for the last 2 decades.
Where their natty's NFL beasts and hows their scheddy. Its cool to throw all those yards but at least win something. It doesn't guarantee that you will win at a high clip.
