Out-of-state kid gets beaten out by a lower-rated South Florida kid and transfers. We've seen this story before. Kiy Hester was the last one.

This sucks because pass rushers are so valuable and DJ has talent. All eyes on Scott Patchan now.

Sorry man but that doesn't make me feel better. A while back you mentioned that our coaches needed to handle this a certain way (ala DJ williams). We didn't and he's gone. At some point all of this attrition is going to hurt us, the same way it did Richt while he was at UGA. You can't stack chips when guys are leaving left and right and then you compound that by basically under recruiting. We'll see how things pan out come February, but I swear I've seen this movie before.

It sucks. The only way to handle it is to recruit more good players. Thank God we already offered Chatfield.

As far as attrition, this is the only one that really hurts. Fines and Gordinier weren't going to play. Owens is a bit of a loss but we need to see what last year's LB recruits can do.

Agree with you D Money that we need to stockpile the roster each year with as much talent as possible, because reality is there will be unavoidable attrition due to a whole host of reasons. Bama lost a staggering amount of top talent this year on Defense and as we saw last night, they did not miss a beat.

I take comfort in the fact that Richt knows how to build a top level roster, because UGA is running with a squad comprised of more than 50% Richt's recruits. We just need to close 2018 strong over these final weeks and continue to build 2019.

FWIW

Not buying this. We'll see where he winds up. If it's anywhere other than Sac State, he's a shyster using a sick 6th cousin as pretext.

The "mom is sick" excuse is usually a good one. There may be some truth to it but I recall Barrow leaving UM because of a similar issue and went all the way to Seattle. But like you said, watch where he lands.

We have no problem letting elite kids transfer out of Miami to be closer to home. But try and transfer back to miami to be closer to home and it's a no. We are going to have depth issues for years.

It’s funny that y’all blame the staff cause DJ wants to leave and so does RJ/Norton. I understand trying to be ahead of your numbers but it’s hard to recruit when on paper your are loaded correctly. It’s hard to predict kids quitting and leaving early.

That's their job

This.

If you cross out DJ, you have bethel and martin from year one (jackson was already committed) and garvin and ford from year two as DL recruits under richt. That just won’t get it done.

not buying it. i think he expected to play right away and just got beat out. don't know but he has got to see all the playing time opening up next year... maybe the heat got to him... lol

LOL at UM granting permission for him to contact Warshington, who has probably been recruiting him since the day he got here.

And LOL at Deonte claiming a sick family member and then publishing that he's interested in schools 12 hours from home.

You mustn't have a heart and have ZERO right to be questioning ANY of this. Just shut up and send thoughts & prayers. It's common knowledge that sick mommas always die before a kid can make it home if he has to take a 4-5 hr flight and they always live if he only has to take a 2-3 hr flight.

In all honesty he will be home just as much at UW as he would be at UM. Its physically impossible for him to drive home on weekends. What a ****** cop out.

The movie you saw was Richts last few years at Georgia. He under recruited and mismanaged the roster and the fan base went nuts - this is what lead to his issues there.

It is alarming that we are now in a position of need at DT/DL when it was by far the most stacked position group on the roster when he arrived

People on this board are schizophrenic. There is no confirmation that DJ is even thinking about transferring. He follows a few guys on twitter and goes back to Cali for a few days and now posters are calling him soft and saying we don’t need him, he’s overrated, etc. it’s a clown show here sometimes.

Solid analysis

The number one reason non-athletes in the south transfer is because they didn’t get into the fraternity/sorority of their choice (I can’t cite it now and I’m not looking it up). Not saying that there was never a family member on their death bed, but sometimes “close and far” are not exactly distance related.

-City versus country
-Sun versus Snow
-East coast/West coast
-North and South
-same time zone/3 time zones away

All of his schools are PAC-12 schools. I have no problem with that at all (then again, I wouldn’t care if they were all ACC).
