DJ Ivey - not hurt

Incredibly frustrating to see him in the right spot in coverage but not have the awareness to make a play on the ball. It would be one thing if he was getting abused and burned all day but he’s not getting beat physically, he’s just not in it mentally. Good athlete, bad cornerback.
I have noticed, many times, our DB’s don’t look for the ball in certain scenarios. I know it sounds crazy but It wouldn’t surprise me if they are coached to keep eyes on WR.

It really depends on the coverage and the scenario. I’m not an expert on coverage techniques but I do know sometimes, in man coverage you play the receiver and try to react to the ball based off what the receiver is doing. After re watching the touchdown catch a few times I’m backing off my criticism a bit. Ivey was in good position and an accurate ball gets deflected or intercepted. The ball was actually thrown poorly and the receiver made a great adjustment. Also, Bolden bit on the run action to the opposite side so there was no over the top help either. I’m still not crazy about Ivey. The other team goes out of their way to target him and he’s going to have to make some plays or they’re going to have to make a change.

He can't cover & he has horrendous technique, on top of the fact he's just simply slow.

There was a play in the 3rd quarter where Myrin Mitchell absolutely dusted him, if Johnston would've made a good pass it would've went for 6.

And on that first TD, most of you will probably think Ivey was in the right position but he actually wasn't, he played it all wrong, he gave an open release off the line & gave away inside leverage, he was supposed to reroute him to the sideline & play the outside shoulder, he let the WR get completely around him on a 7 route to the back of the end zone, the reason why he didn't get his head around is because he was trailing the whole route & had bad eye discipline with no idea how to read the WR's hips & shoulders.

It's not a confidence issue, it's a technique, traits & skills issue, he's simply not a good CB & doesn't posses the capability to cover consistently. This is what I was railing about with him all offseason, he doesn't have any pluses to game, it's all minuses & OC's recognize him early as the weak link & will attack him at will as long as we continue to throw him out there.

He was & still is a huge liability in coverage, but the staff refuses to hold him accountable & sit his *** on the bench.
He has no business playing at Miami it is beyond obvious. I have harped on this for two years now. After that GT game he shouldn't have had his ship renewed. He should retire and focus on a new career.

It’s guaranteed that whatever mistakes any of the cbs behind Ivey would make on the field.... Ivey would look worse making the same mistakes. If Couch or Williams isn’t ready to hide Ivey on the bench this staff should just start Isaiah Dunson.

I remember when a true freshman starting on our defense wasn’t that rare of a situation. And it wasn’t always about lack of depth like in Shaq and Pinckneys case. If the freshman CB, safety, or LBer had more talent and potential he started simple as that fck the politics.

y’all know I never liked this defensive scheme but if we had better coaches behind it, then maybe my eyes wouldn’t bleed from watching busts, walk ons, and non UM caliber cbs get all the fckn reps on that side of the ball over younger players that have more natural talent at that position.

He's Rumph's boy, he's gonna play him because they don't wanna admit they misevaluted him.

The staff always defers to upperclassmen on Defense, so the young guys always have to wait their turn even if they're the better player.

Idk what it's gonna take for him to get sat down, but after last year we should've been getting Couch & Williams as prepared as possible to play.

I knew he was gonna be bad was saying it all offseason that he was gonna be the weakest link, for whatever reason the staff just doesn't see it or just doesn't believe it's a problem yet, despite the fact he's giving up the most TD's amongst the CB's dating back to last year.

The thing that's most frustrating to me, is what's the point in having all these young corners if they're not gonna get reps & play when it matters? Why even recruit Christian Williams if he's not gonna play until it's on 3rd team in the 4th quarter?

It's a waste IMO, & it just highlights why we miss on every top tier Corner we recruit, because they know they're gonna be sitting on the bench for 2-3 years behind some slow upperclassmen if they come here.

I hate picking out individual players, but he's just not good. I shudder to think about what'll happen when we face a legit QB. In fact, next week, Tutu Atwell will likely have a field day against Ivey.
I hate to do it as well but the truth is the truth....doesn't take away the fact DJ will be more of a cane then I ever will be. But facts r facts and it's true what u posted

I see the same traits in Baker and Manny's relationship that compromised []__[] in the past and make me believe they're not right for this program but, I sincerely hope ER20 can help them to see the light, because the only thing worse than watching this trash coaching on defense is seeing him being used as a prop.

Manny is starting to look like a more insecure version of Al Golden.

It's definitely time to give Williams a chance....I watched him closely in that game kid has everything physically you want in a cb ....when the board discussed Ivey in HS, I never thought he was fast enough to recover after a mistake against a good WR.....I got torched for saying he wasn't Miami starter material...

After his poor performances last season most cane fans ( me included) wanted him passed up by CW...now after the first game lots of talk about not turning his head on one play .....but Ivey also gave up a crucial first down sideline pass and was beaten very badly on another luckily their QB missed the receiver...he shoulda been sent to the pine after letting the receiver beat him by 5-7 yards on that long pass play TD the UAB QB missed ...Ivey will continue to get picked on (after film review) Manny and Baker has to know he's a liability...in a recent interview Rumph claimed the competition was too close to name a starter etc....now he has a real game is in the books to look at, there is no way Ivey should be the starter next week....no phuckin way!
