DJ Ivey - not hurt

He's Rumph's boy, he's gonna play him because they don't wanna admit they misevaluted him.

The staff always defers to upperclassmen on Defense, so the young guys always have to wait their turn even if they're the better player.

Idk what it's gonna take for him to get sat down, but after last year we should've been getting Couch & Williams as prepared as possible to play.

I knew he was gonna be bad was saying it all offseason that he was gonna be the weakest link, for whatever reason the staff just doesn't see it or just doesn't believe it's a problem yet, despite the fact he's giving up the most TD's amongst the CB's dating back to last year.

The thing that's most frustrating to me, is what's the point in having all these young corners if they're not gonna get reps & play when it matters? Why even recruit Christian Williams if he's not gonna play until it's on 3rd team in the 4th quarter?

It's a waste IMO, & it just highlights why we miss on every top tier Corner we recruit, because they know they're gonna be sitting on the bench for 2-3 years behind some slow upperclassmen if they come here.
He wouldn't have played again for me after the GT game last year.

I knew it was Rumph Liberty but I just wanted to hear it from you first. God I hate that guy! One more question my friend, we all know including Diaz that he can’t afford another let down year like last year or it’s his job on the line and I have to believe that Diaz is smart enough not to put his neck out there for a guy that he was about to fire last year and a player who clearly can’t play the position. Diaz ain’t blind, he has to see what Ivey is. So do you think Diaz will take Rumph aside and tell him to play the younger more talented player or is Diaz dumb enough to put his head coaching career in the
Hands of Rumph and Ivey?

I’ll agree that qb’s hardly ever tell the receivers “I’m a hit you low on the outside next to the pylon”.
But when it happens on accident or on purpose a good db at the very least has his left hand extended contesting the throw.

Excuses excuses
That's a good eval of that play, since it was a corner ball, and what looks like Cover 1, I don't think its Cover 3, like he said the slots routes is designed to pull the FS away form the Weakside WR.
Then its just 1-on-1, which is play design, but I would hope Ivey is better then losing to UAB WR. Nope.

I'll say this, he initially did fantastic lead his man into the safety for help, awesome.
Now after about 10 yards, he's playing chase which is where is becomes a problem, if you send him inside keep your inside hand and keep pushing that outside hip to keep pushing him inside. As soon as he was chasing he was effed on this route, no way to turn his head around, you just gotta play instincts and when you see guy's eyes open and hands open up wait for the ball and rake.
This is my opinion is basic stuff. In this system the CB have be meatheads. What I mean, once the receive release form the LoS beat the WR up and harass non-stop and shadow push to your help (i.e., safety) and play trail on the WRs. Ivey has to want to just come every dam play and just beat him up.

I'm not gonna get into how the front leave the coverage guys out to dry, but on this play, that's what looks like it.

Not defending Ivey, but this is interesting here....

Respectfully disagree w/ Roman.
Sure, Bolden could have maybe played it better to provide assistance if the ball was thrown back shoulder or to the post. But with the WR clearly running to the corner at that point, it would have required an acrobatic catch anyway. I don't understand for the life of me why Ivey turned his head to the right (i.e., in the opposite direction to where the WR was running) when he looked back in a feeble attempt to locate the ball. If he looks back over his left shoulder, he's in a better position to make a play on the ball. By that point he'd already lost position, but he could have still salvaged it at the end with even average technique and awareness of where he was on the field.

lol....ive never liked Ivey Harley or Wiggins. I remember arguing Miami should have taking the guy that went to Baylor over Wiggins but people ands I mean lot of people thought Wiggins was better. Harley is trash and so is Ivey... out of the 3 i'dprolly toke Wiggins but that ain't saying much. As long as they start Diaz is a pos HC I can't stand those ***** guys. I'd line up against Harley tomorrow and body slam his *** and take a personal foul a..same with Wiggins. Throw me out the game I wouldn't even care 60 yards in penalties minimum ..if I punched both those guys dead in they chest watch what happen.

Lmao **** bro u harsh on the team. I will say this we have some football players with very low football IQ. Ivey, Pope and even though i hate to say it kosi. I just watch them and think what the **** are you doing?

Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane
Wait... maybe I’m not “woke” enough but I thought these comments automatically made you a sexiest, bigot, xenophobic ( still don’t know what that means), and racist (don’t know why but it’s implied). How dare you suggest that biology determines the level of athleticism and ability to compete with other biologically neutral individuals who play football. Shame on you 😂

Ivey is simply not a good CB. His footwork, change of direction, overall reaction speed.... He's a liability out there and will most definitely be the target of opposing DC's.

He needs to be moved to Safety and rotate with Hall, Bolden and Carter. QUICKLY.
Why would you want him moved to safety when he has proven that he lacks awareness when the ball is in the air?

That’s not what you want at safety.

Why does he keep getting chance after chance ?

Sh*t is mind mind-boggling

Dude needs to move to FS
Chill bro. You ever played corner at a competitive level? Probably not. Because if you did. You wouldn't be saying **** about our boy Ivey. Let the kid have his moment. If he blows it. Then its on him. If he becomes a legend by the most outside of chances. Then it's on him. I got a spot for DJ in my ride or die whip. Never take sides against the family. It's a Canes thing. ....

Go Canes!!!

If you're going to put Ivey out there, let him body people at the line and have help over the top. That's what he's built for, to be your bully CB, but this **** off the line 5 to 10 yards isn't what he's about. That's just setting him up for failure.

Just to remind people that are making excuses:

Knew Ivey wasn't a player on this play.

I dont get us putting certain people just on the field just because they are juniors or seniors. Marshall Few is ahead of Restrepo even tho Restrepo showed up. Why?

Saban put Surtain in right from the get go.

Brooks showed up against LA Tech and had a good game. But he is still second team.

Put the best players on the field. Period. How are we supposed to develop young players when they just ride the bench for two years?
