Discussion: future starting O-line

Rivers is much more physically ready than Walker.
But can he play LT? That’s the question. I’m more inclined to go with Walker at LT. If the hole was at RT then Walker is in the rotation but catching a shirt.

Describe best guy. Talent wise or technique wise? I’m going talent wise and developing that talent with game experience. It just so happens to have a benefit toward ‘21 to go with the fact there’s no starter for the left side. I understand that technique wise he’s not there but he’s way better than where Nelson was last year.

Walker right now is pretty much at Zion level from last year , just weaker. Zion at this moment is better than walker. Neither should be playing much. Just stating.

Ease walker in , play him occasionally and see where he’s at while keeping a redshirt as a possibility. Throw that kid out there early and it’ll be Zion all over again. If the kid isn’t ready it’s not fair to put him in a lose lose situation. Just put it uf last year and watch both tackles.

If we're talking this season;

LT - John Campbell/
LG - Ousman Traore/ Jakai Clark
C - Corey Gaynor
RG - DJ Scaife
RT - Jarrid Williams

Walker must Redshirt this season, if he has to start we're in trouble. He missed both Spring camps at UF & Miami & needs a full year in the S&C program & full season to learn the offense. He's thin right now needs to add upper body strength. I've said this multiple times, but the solution to our OL problems can't always be to insert another 18 year old & expect them to play above their means. He's a talented player, but he needs time to develop.

For 2021, Walker, Rivers, Donaldson, Jakai Clark, Cleveland Reed, John Campbell as a Red Junior, hopefully an improved Zion going into his 3rd year, plus hopefully ElGammal & whichever other GT we may bring in next year will be a strong & stout enough OL that we can carry on whatever momentum we have this year into the following season.

But I don't think either TF OL's will play this season, Rivers may play some as a backup & OG is easier to play as a TF, but even so still ideally you want young OL's to redshirt & get stronger before being thrown in the fire.
Yeaaaa both Rivers and Walker are going to play even if they’re in the rotation and not starting. It’s just a matter of how much. We’re not in a position to sit our most physically talented guys.

I've been saying it for a while...but having the luxury of sliding Scaife to guard would be HUGE for this team and offense. I would think they'd keep Williams at the position he's comfortable at, right tackle, and then that only leaves 1 question mark instead of 2. There's zero guarantee Williams would be anywhere as near as good on the left as he is on the right. Secure right tackle and then you only have to worry about one of the tackle positions. It makes it easier to scheme around that deficiency with the help of a chipping tight end or running back.

I say slide Scaife to guard and keep Williams at Right tackle. Let Campbell, Herbert, and anyone else they find duke it out for LT and plan to give that position plenty of help within the offensive scheme.

Zion level? Big dawg you can’t really believe that. Zion was 270 this time last year and Walker’s 300 without it. I don’t think you’re giving the kid enough credit. Zion wasn’t even playing O-line til his senior season.

LT-Williams
LG-Clark
C-Gaynor
RG-Scaife
RT-Campbell

I could see Scaife and Campbell switching positions depending on Campbell's progression at tackle.

Traore for Clark , Clark will be a utility man. Guard / center. Rivers could eventually take traores spot or even Campbell at right tackle. Imo Campbell is a better guard. River is a future starter at RT.

Zion is a Hoss , strong as **** , he’s just new to the position. Walker as a freshmen is nowhere near as strong. I live in gainesville and know a lot of folks close to that program , and the word was he was getting a shirt (that’s before transfer talk). He needed strength and work. He’s not ready and isn’t one of the seven best ol here. Why even attempt that?

LT Williams - Nelson
LG Traore OR Clark
C Gaynor - Clark
RG Scaife - Rivers
RT Campbell - Nelson

I'm not in the Nelson RS camp. We need to play Nelson first and see what we have, if we need to shut him down and try out Walker we can. Ideally Reed, Hillary or Herbert could allow Rivers to RS but i'm not counting on it. Let's hope we finally have an OL who coach UP our boys.

Walker needs a full season in the S&C program, he may be the most talented in terms of upside, but if you've seen what he looks like as of recently he's super thin & clearly needs to get stronger.

But if yall wanna throw 2 more TF's out there on the OL again this year & expect different results, just be careful what you wish for... Having a multiple 18 year olds on the line going up against some of the grown *** men we face in the Coastal this year at DLine is not a receipe for success.

The kids need time to maturate & develop, throwing them on the field too early won't help them or us.

Oh Rivers is definitely playing. That under Armour game performance was impressive. Very body struggled vs. speed but him plus physically he’s ready. He just needs to shred a couple pounds. Maybe he gets the RT job and move Williams to LT.
