Did the whole secondary play poorly? Or was it…

PFF is pure garbage.
It was the LBs and safeties. I assume you watched. Almost nothing was thrown towards a corner and if it was it was more exploiting #s for a bubble or obvious holes in spot 3
can't have it both ways ... a large majority of folks use it, so it's unfair to discount it when the numbers are not in your favor

The corners are the least of our concerns, but that doesn’t mean they are playing well. EOC and Lucas are not playing well at all. And don’t get me started on Damari.

With that said, our issue is primarily at the linebacker, nickel, and safety spots.

Move Bryce back to FS. That’s his natural position. Don’t play Toure and Smith at the same time. Experiment with the younger guys.

I'd also point out that the poor tackling added extra yards to the UNC passing game stats.

not Trying to S my own D. But petrino was always going to abuse the LBs putting them in space with RBs and TEs. Historically he’s called the games of his life against Miami. I don’t have x & o answers. But it’s clear we may need to sacrifice some run defense (downhill lbs) with whoever is more athletic idk who that is at this point

This year’s corners seemingly struggle much more getting off blocks. LBs and safeties being out of position creates more 1v1 tackling situations, resulting in more missed tackles. Overall, the DBs aren’t as physical as last year when tackling. Way more diving at legs vs wrapping/running through contact. Honestly could be a result of guys being forced to tackle 1v1 in space at higher rates. Wouldn’t put it on the coaches. They’re teaching exactly what was taught last year. Personnel issue at this point in the season

We play cover 3 almost exclusively and it puts a lot of stress on the one deep safety. He can’t help the linebackers against the intermediate stuff without giving up deep coverage responsibilities. Our linebackers are bigger run stuffing guys who probably get a little too sucked in on the play action/RPO stuff when they should be getting deeper drops. We need to consider sub package linebackers more often because Chase and Mo are struggling in coverage.
