Diaz panic

Bulls eye! It would be career suicide for an experienced DC to come to Miami now. That's why CMR will probably hire " an up and coming " inexperienced DC. Just saying.

We'll know a lot about MR's future with who he hires as the DC. If he's able to attract a big time name, it's reasonable to assume that better times are ahead. If he hires some no name, inexperienced guy, it will be a clear indication of the future (or lack thereof) for MR.

Yeah. Definitely had nothing to do with the million dollar plus raise.

Money and the chance at becoming a HC played a role. No doubt. But, to think Manny wasn't frustrated with Richt and his stubbornness and refusal to change did not play a significant role in his decision...well...that's simply ignoring the truth. You don't have to believe me....but it's true.

Was he frustrated? Sure. If Miami went 10-2 this year and the offense played well, would he have left for this opportunity? You bet your *** he would have. Whatever frustration he did have or questions about the direction of the program are irrelevant. He wants to be a HC, this is a great opportunity for him, and you don't say no to close to a $1.5M raise. Not if you want your wife to let you in the house, that is.

Well, I'm a believer!

Maybe. Maybe not. That would depend on Miami's counter. Your point is valid only if money and the title were the ONLY motivating factors. They were not.

We shouldn't be concerned and normally this is a good sign, the trouble is I have no faith in Richt to fix the team.

He now really needs to hire an OC and a DC now but we know how this is going to play out. Rickitty will spin it that he doesn’t want two new coordinators so he’s going to continue to call plays.

Miami isn't countering nearly in the same ballpark as what Manny is going to get paid in Philly. And they may not have been the only motivating factors. But they sure as **** were the biggest ones.

LOL at the panic and the characterization of him jumping at the first thing offered.

Diaz just got an incredible opportunity, and he got it by coming here. No one was looking for him to be their HC before he got here. He was seen as a journeyman DC with spotty success.

Comes here and does what every dc not named Doritos has done here (4-3 downhill defense), and now he’s a HC 3 years later. That’s a **** good selling point to ANY hungry DC. Miami makes DCs not the other way around.

On top of all that, we with all of his glaringly obvious faults, pretty sure Sleepy’s last 3 DC hires were Grantham, Pruitt, and Diaz.

Take a look at a guy like Tracy Claeys or some guy like him who has had excellent results at lower tier programs. We’re not going to poach Venables or Aranda, but we don’t have to. Any good DC can kill it at UM. Even some mediocre ones have done well here and never matched the success they had here anywhere else.
I think Diaz did a really good job but also think he was overrated a bit at the same time. I'm more concerned with the timing of his departure with the early signing period right around the corner. Plus Richt will probably amplify the problems caused by him leaving.

Aren't the defenses at D2 schools like Colgate and NDSU ranked the best in the country right now? We should take one of them

Diaz and his defense literally salvaged this season from utter disaster due to Richt's incompetence. If I'm Manny, I don't jump at Temple (he won't be successful there) but I am looking around.

With that said, Manny is 100% replaceable. To Franchise's point, any DC who's not a complete idiot like D'Onofrio can come to Miami and unleash our horses and achieve good results. Find an excellent, hungry, up-and-coming DC, and save the big bucks for a top notch OC and staff.

What is most troubling is some of the undisclosed reasons on why Manny is leaving. Richt's refusal to make changes on Offense and the direction of the Program played a huge role.

Huh?? He is leaving to be a head coach not a lateral move to be DC for Temple

Hate you bro...you took all the words out of my key stroke!
Even with the name drop of Tracey Claeys....I think he would be a wonderful candidate...his DL coach (Phelps) and Safeties coach (Shavers) are pretty good too.....good work homie.

I'm a fan of El Jefe Diaz & hoped he stayed in Miami for awhile before moving on, but I don't blame him for 1 sec for getting away from Rix even if it's at a sh*t gig like Temple.

With the said, my issue is Richt now has a new bevy of excuses for 2019, 2020 & beyond as to why we'll continue to lose games we shouldn't. The "we have a new DC!" excuse will be the scapegoat around here for a long time.

He'll probably elevate Jess to DC, but if Banda & Patke are going with Diaz he's gotta bring in a DL, Safety & LB coach are you confident he'll hit homeruns at that? Or are we about to get overloaded with HS coaches in Georgia on our staff now?
