Devin Hester Interview

that military **** dont work in sfla thats why that man cant recruit, he better thank Shapiro for that first class. Dude is one of the worst coaches of all time him Golden and Diaz are complete **** shows.

Every kid we signed in 08 was because of RS and those kids were coming here regardless. If Shapiro did anything then we would have landed Patrick Peterson. Chinese food and strip clubs wasn’t going to bring no recruits to UM.

I'm convinced that the brawl with FIU led to Randy being hired given his style. If that event never happened, I wonder what direction we would've went in post-Coker.

The Brawl, Papa’s murder, Willie Cooper getting shot, even the unnecessary perception of Sean Taylor’s murder. I believe that’s what led to RS being hired. They wanted a disciplinarian with a good story image for the program.

Yea but local schools always say that to this day. Funny thing is, on certain schools get recruiters by every college coach. That’s why kids transfer.
I hear what youre saying but golden had to have a meeting with local coaches to rebuild relationships.

Randy destroyed alot of relationships while at miami.

I'll pile onto your post. In 2013, we signed 19 kids. Within 2 years, Olsen, Griffin, Sandland, Lockley, Ray Lewis II, Bond, Figueroa were gone. So that is 7 out of 19 from the 2013 class.

Back to his 2012 class, we signed kids. Gone within 3 years were Jean-Louis, Kirby, Dewey, Hamilton, Lockhart, Blue, Witt, Terry, Briscoe, Hoilett, Dortch, Moore, Thompson, Dilliard, Gadbois. Gionni Paul could not play in our defense so he transfers to Utah and becomes first-team All-Pac 12.

Blame Shapiro all anybody wants. The attrition under Golden was unreal. The dude sucked.
This is exactly right and one of the core issues with him as UM corch. Some of it wasn't even 'attrition' in a real sense. He'd take LOIs from kids who were never getting in, just to look good in Feb. recruiting rankings. Add to that the real attrition and the completely useless scholarships given to kids who had no chance of contributing at UM, and you realize what happened. Swiss cheese roster. Some good kids and evals, some awful evals, some desperation takes because of holes that emerged.

Hester had a 57 reception season in the nfl. That means that he was likely competent enough to play amongst the likes of Lance Leggett, Ryan Moore, Akeem Jolla, and Khalil Jones. He's not a genius, but you can't say he didn't work hard or improve at his craft either.
And when he was asked to grow within the offense and do more than the basics, it went poorly. I would have put Devin at tailback and left it at that, but considering that he would have been a disaster at pass pro, I can see why a coach would have an issue with that.

Honestly, some of these guys got in their own way as well. Willie Williams, despite being a relatively intelligent guy was a dumbass in regards to not doing stupid crap. When you flame out at multiple schools, including Louisville under Petrino maybe you are a jackass.

Bruh that’s overblown because then he proceeded to have a number of bad episodes with recruits. Are we going to forget Denver Kirkland? The only thing Al did was meet with some schools and took a bunch of kids who should not have been playing at UM. He didn’t repair anything and only tried to put a PR spin on his mediocre efforts. The 1 school that complained the most was Central. They had a number of D1 kids but the only legit p5 player there was Freeman. I believe RA and the then HC (he’s a college coach) fell out. But Golden met with them and took Thomas Finney who later transferred to Bethune. Golden did very minimal work but get praised as if he really brought about change. High school coaches started griping about Golden too.

I completely disagree....Randy was partially at fault...I've had too many UM players agree with me...As I said...WW did some stupid F-ing things...but we've had others that did as bad...if not worse...
The answer is usually that both sides are right, just different issues.

Randy was an issue.

WW was an issue. Randy didn't land him in jail. That's all on him. 10 arrests before UM, etc etc etc. Bad decisions are bad decisions.

The combination of the two was a terrible idea.

Sadly, Shalala was responsible for the whole mess. She picked Randy for the wrong reasons, and she took WW for the wrong reasons, too. He'd have been better off going elsewhere for sure.

Exactly but somehow people ignore that. I still remember the Derrick Griffin signing. Everyone knew he wasn’t qualified to play fbs. But he only signed him to boost nsd rankings because he knew he wasn’t going to get in.

IMO the cloud was overblown. Golden was implying death penalty which we were never going to get. After our punishment in the mid 90’s no one gets the death penalty because it punishes the opponents to. Plus too much money in tv deals. We also have to remember USC & OSU did worst and was given a post season banned. Chinese food and strip clubs are not more damning than Reggie getting paid while living in luxury condos. It really wasn’t that bad. He ran with that loud fir about 4 years. Meanwhile we knew about the cloud going into Randy’s final season.
Of course he overplayed it, he was a car salesmen and he saw what everybody sees with UM mom n pop operation, an easy mark.. Even Blake James is freaking getting over on UM and raping them for everything they got..

Later on in goldens tenure youre correct. The first 2 years coaches loved him. I dont really care honestly because he sucked but what he walked into was a disaster.

Yep. And of course it was Gluten's D, but the talk is he coulda been a great corch if he just fired dorito. Crazy! He'd have hired someone else to run his D and they'd have failed, too! Manny could be a great corch if he'd just fire Blake Baker and Dan Enos!!!!! I mean, ah, sigh, eh, whatever.

Agreed. I thought if he fired coach d he would work out until it was apparent that it was goldens defense also.

Exactly! He acted as if he didn’t know. Man we knew in 2010 what was going down. Dude actually implied we were going to get a death penalty. He was awful then tried to sue the school.

Again, myth.

Miami's 2011 team, which was Golden's first season, included the following:

QB: Harris, Morris
RB: Lamar Miller
WR: Dorsett, Benjamin, Streeter, Hurns
TE: Walford
OL: Linder, Feliciano, S. McDermott, Figueroa, BW, Gunn, Seantrel, Bunch, Wheeler
DL: Forston, Pierre, Porter, M. Regis,
DE: Vernon, Chickillo, S. Green, Ojomo, M. Robinson
LB: Spence, Perryman, R. Buchanon, Futch, E. Johnson, Paul,
DB: [disaster. thanks, randy!] [armbrister, R.R. Armstrong, Crawford, McGee]
P/K: Botts, Wieclaw

They liked Coker the 1st 2 years. They liked RS the first 2 years, they liked Richt the first 2 years and they liked Manny the first 2 years. He didn’t do anything special. And they all said the same thing. They come in talking about keeping the talent home but don’t do that. Randy wanted players from winning programs which was lazy IMO. Golden never saw south Florida talent until he came down here; he was just offering the 1st kids to register for camp. And Diaz keeps missing on LBs for some reason.

Qb sucked

Te sucked

Db sucked

You listed starters. The roster was thin as **** and im in no way taking up for golden.

Right! Armbrister wasn’t a RS recruit though. He didn’t even commit to RS. Golden took him in like April. But we had talent to win 10 games that year. It was experienced enough to win more. More holes occurred under Golden.
