Despite the huge win…What are your areas of concern?

My big concern is how Carr was able to run on the defense. Both UF and FSU have mobile QBs. I hope Heatherman can figure out how to stop the QB run.

But there isn't a guy that is a threat each time he touches the ball.

Not to compare to OSU, but you look at their offense last year and they had arguably 4 of those guys (the 2 RBs, Egbuka and JJ). I'm pretty amazed with what Toney did but I haven't seen that element of his game yet. I think Lyle is a threat but I want to see a little more. I think he's the best threat of the RBs.

Outside wr is still a concern , especially speed. We still need explosive athletes on offense.
Also Toney will be getting a lot of attention going forward , so other than CJ who can step up ? DT depth scares me for an entire season. Regardless of the fg I still have concerns with ST’s. Toure in coverage is another one. So I pretty much have the same concerns now as last week.

Im happy we got the win but man does it seems like Mario coaches for a tie or something

I was losing my mind watching us essentially leave the game in our unreliable kickers leg. I feel like most coaches who have been a bit more aggressive getting downfield to make it an easier kick.

I think someone is going to emerge in that role. Gameplan was to play it safe against NDs elite secondary. Expect next two games we’ll see one of the WRs become the deep threat and make the FSU DCs job more challenging.
 
1. I'm sure it's been said but LBs in coverage.

2. Setting the edge after Bain and Mes. Blount played a lot but that big run ND ripped of was his fault. He's just a bully which is great to collapse the pocket but he needs a lot of work. After that, Lightfoot looks too small. Lowe and Cole, really need to step up on early downs.

He played what, two drives? They pinned up back deep, so I believe his first two carries took place inside the 10-15 yard line, which was obviously going to be up the middle lol. Also, early in the game, coaches always run it up the middle- especially against a defense like ND. If Lyle hadn't gotten banged up, we would have been more creative with the run game

I think the situation with Chuck is he simply is not a nickel and the staff likes the other corners better. Hetherman uses his nickel like LB at times and Brantley just doesn’t have that skill set due to size limitations.

Maybe it'll be game by game. I can easily see situations (Like USF) where the offense uses the shiftier WR in slot and aren't built on the Run like ND is. Same possibly with like SMU, Syracuse, or maybe Lousiville who will be full spread 4 wide most of the game... Sorry I don't want Taylor on field over Brantley. There is no ******* way hes one of our 5 or 6 best DBs. Put brantley on outside and slide damari or lucas inside if you want that more physical presence still. Or fitzgerald at safety and maybe poyser at nickel or some ****....

On that big run, did you watch Wes? He played pretty well most of the game, but that was a terrible play by him.
Toure got attacked hard in pass game.

Jet sweep isn't a concept we'd wanna employ for multiple reasons. Tosses, sweeps, naked bootlegs etc those would be great. Things to keep the defense attention pre snap. Otherwise we just see pre snap where the defense is loading up exactly where were gonna run the ball too. I'm hoping Carson will get a lil more hands on with some of this with his pre snap reads. The naked bootleg was pretty much there the entire 4th Q. I have a difficult time understanding when OCs get rigid with situational play calling. Anyone who has ever played defense at any level knows the last thing you want is to be out there guessing and feel anxious about multiple possibilities. You want to know the tendency and fly in to fill your gap. It’s the OC’s job to make defenders feel the bind. Doesn’t have to be ultra creative. Just put the possibility out there. People complained about the bomb to JoJo that didn’t connect early in the game. I thought that vertical route was a great threat.

Miami ran the ball between the tackles 76% of the time last year which was 2nd most in cfb. That’s just what the run game is going to be. They feel it keeps you getting positive yards and reduce tfls

Toure is completely lost in pass pro. I asked @DMoney and he said not to worry. Well I'm worried. We got lucky they didn't get Love 1-1.
I thought PoPo did a good job. Better than expected.

Not the end all be all, but the PFF grades reflect that

I don't have a prob with Toure and Wes being the most snaps. But clear passing downs one of them needs to be out imo. Pruitt should be in more Imo.

I do not disagree that a big part of the running will be between the tackles. All I was saying was that with a healthy Lyle, I think we'll be more creative in the run game than what we showed on Sunday and last year for that matter. I don't think that's some crazy statement lol

I think we'll start to see Pruitt and Bonner more. I could see us using more dime early on as well.

1. Coordinators getting conservative in the second half. Wasn't a fan. 👎🏼 Way too much Quarters with off coverage and a light box. ND saw this and exploited it.

2. I could be wrong, cause the coaches know our personnel more than I do, but I feel like we're good enough on the outside (CB) to tuck our LB's into the box and play more single-high coverage.

3. I don't mind the run plays, but do they ALWAYS have to be run into a heavy box? Our condensed formations bring more defenders into the box. With this OL, if we ran the ball more out of 10/11 personnel we'd be borderline unstoppable. That's how ND was able to have some success running the ball in the second half. They spread us out and ran into a light box. With the condensed formations we invite more defenders...so even if we block it well, our RB's are still being hit @ roughly 3-5 yards. This puts more pressure on them to break multiple tackles in order to get chunk plays. With lighter boxes you have more opportunities for 1-on-1 tackling opportunities.

Watch how a Louisville or a Georgia tech schemes their running game. It is a night and day difference. But since we have a talented o line and had some success running the ball last year, fans seem to turn a blind eye to it. We leave tons of explosives on the table and make the opposing defense’s life so simple. If it’s not one thing it’s another. Finally get a talented roster and we are truly limiting ourselves with this elementary run scheme. Why would a defense do anything but stack the box against us? If we are handing it off, they know exactly where it’s going. Drives me insane and truly puts a cap on our ceiling as an offense

Also someone just posted an amazing highlight/lowlight reel of the refs botching calls. Against the best secondary in the country, Miami had guys get open. Refs didn’t call defensive PI even when laughably obvious, so the WRs didn’t get the stats they should have.
