Despite the huge win…What are your areas of concern?

The drive after the bain int drove me nuts no threat of a pass not even once I understand being conservative I really do but you had to threaten them a little bit with the end zone it's like when we got the ball back you knew we were going for three points. that was annoying. I wasn't asking for a 60 yard bomb but he looked like he was lining it up for the middle of the field to win the game with 10 minutes left.

Again yes he has influence in the overall game plan. The scheme. But that isn't the issue. Playing conservative with a young wr unit against a very aggressive defense isn't the issue. It's the exact play calling in that scheme. We ran the same 4 run plays all night and we ran them in the same exact scenarios over and over again. Feel free to run in those same scenarios. Just don't call the same exact run play to the same exact spot. VARIETY. that's all
this!!!!

What were your obeservations of OL opening/not opening up consistent interior run lanes?

Is the "jet sweep" concept outdated now because LBs are just to fast East-West? Seems like Miami doesn't run any outside run plays.
Jet sweep isn't a concept we'd wanna employ for multiple reasons. Tosses, sweeps, naked bootlegs etc those would be great. Things to keep the defense attention pre snap. Otherwise we just see pre snap where the defense is loading up exactly where were gonna run the ball too. I'm hoping Carson will get a lil more hands on with some of this with his pre snap reads. Offensive line wasn't an issue at all. Makes it a lot more difficult when they have 90% certainty where the play is going. They would sell out there all game.

Malachi Toney is only 17??

Good God.

My only concern for the rest of the season is keeping that young stud healthy..

Wide receiver. Solid unit but no dudes on the outside. I’d stack the box and press. Take my chances. Even the ticket lady knows where the run is headed.
We seem too predictable, and I am not sure we can beat many teams deep. That will hurt us once teams start putting 8 in the box. We also need to get Lofton involved more.

The DC stated in his interview that the late bust was on the safety. Looks like the LB was supposed to pass off the TE. Instead Toure and the safety both moved up to the RB (or whomever was in the middle), leaving the TE wide open.

I think the safety was Thomas but I’m not sure.

The knock on Thomas was his coverage skills. Looks like he always wants to come forward.
That would make sense, as it seemed like our gameplan was to make sure they didnt beat us with the run

1. Coordinators getting conservative in the second half. Wasn't a fan. 👎🏼 Way too much Quarters with off coverage and a light box. ND saw this and exploited it.

2. I could be wrong, cause the coaches know our personnel more than I do, but I feel like we're good enough on the outside (CB) to tuck our LB's into the box and play more single-high coverage.

3. I don't mind the run plays, but do they ALWAYS have to be run into a heavy box? Our condensed formations bring more defenders into the box. With this OL, if we ran the ball more out of 10/11 personnel we'd be borderline unstoppable. That's how ND was able to have some success running the ball in the second half. They spread us out and ran into a light box. With the condensed formations we invite more defenders...so even if we block it well, our RB's are still being hit @ roughly 3-5 yards. This puts more pressure on them to break multiple tackles in order to get chunk plays. With lighter boxes you have more opportunities for 1-on-1 tackling opportunities.

I'd like to see them give Beck more flexibility to change the play at the LOS.
He has that flexibility just as Cam had that flexibility last year. The announcers even commented on this topic during the broadcast when they discussed Beck's relationship with Dawson. Beck told them at UGA he was only allowed to change a pass play to a limited set of run plays, or a run play to another run, but Dawson has complete trust in Beck to make changes at the line as he sees fit.

It’s probably already been said… but the things that stood out most to me was the running game and on defense when the play extended, it seems they fell asleep

and not to mention, at one point, Beck was 12/12 passing after a slow start. He was cooking! Let him cook. You paid $4m for him, use him. Put the **** game away

Last year the contrast was extreme in how confused our defense would look pre-snap vs. how calm and collected our offense looked, especially with Cam looking like he was standing on his deck sipping his morning coffee as he read the defense and switched the play if he felt the need.

I know Beck missed the spring due to his arm injury, but we heard a lot about how smart he is and how he was working hard to get to know his teammates and learn the offense. Additionally, it’s been stated multiple times that he wasn’t allowed to audible at Georgia but that he was excited to have that opportunity to do so in Miami.

Maybe I missed it, but I don’t recall seeing him audible once. He certainly looked relatively calm and collected, as a veteran should. And he did well when pressured (first TD was a great pass). But, it was very noticeable to see the lack of pre-snap focus on reading the defense by Beck.

Maybe this is just the first game, maybe we tried to keep things simple because we felt we could out muscle them, it could be several things. But that’s something I really hope to see change as the season goes on…that we are getting to the LOS with time for Beck to make his reads and checks, get on the same page with the o-line, and get us into a different play if needed.

As great as Cam was after the snap, I think his most underrated talent was/is his ability to study his opponent and read them. Very rarely did it ever look like the defense caught him off guard with anything. He always knew what they were doing and where he needed to look to go for his first and second options.

While I recognize it’s a totally different offense but Michigan runs the ball a lot yet it is difficult to defend because they’re unpredictable. They throw everything at you in the run game and set up the play action.

****, Butch ran the ball 50% of the time but it wasn’t always a dive into a wall of players that averages 3 yards. **** is frustrating.

*I forgot to mention, what was interesting and frankly a welcome sight was how calm and communicative our defense looked pre-snap. Yes, we had the one busted coverage, along with losing contain on the long run and then the flukey BS TD pass that I won’t even call busted coverage. To me, all things that can be corrected.

The defense looked like they weren’t thinking and that they were reacting/attacking. That was great to see.

Toure brought back memories of Spence and Eddie Johnson. Missile.

I agree…I’ve seen the data used to backup the argument that our approach to running is fine but my concern is it severely limits what we can do in PA. I know our line is good enough to tell people where we are running and still be successful, but mixing in some under center runs and passes would be nice if for no other reason than to give us more play action options.

I would have like to see more contributions from Jojo and Lyle, however I’m aware Lyle got banged up early. For being the first game, there’s for sure always going to be some nitpicking. But compare this first game to say how both UF versus Miami looked in the season opener in Orlando in I think 2019…it’s a night and day difference.

And you can't say Mario game flow decisions lol…Those aren't going anywhere.

There was so much to like with Toney, C.Brown/Fletcher, a dominant defensive line ,etc...but here are a few things that caught my eye that weren't quite up to snuff yet. And please don't say I'm being a negative, it's just a topic for discussion, and it was a knock out performance as far as game 1s go…Those can at times be very, very sloppy, and we looked mostly great.

1. Safety play…I think it's still a question. Better than Jaden Harris no doubt, but that isn't the bar. Poyser has time to improve no doubt, but I thought the writers crowned him a little early this offseason after some success at CUSA, and I'm still concerned now. He didn't have a great night, and while I think Thomas can definitely give us snaps in the box he is what he is, and really fell asleep on the first Irish TD. I'm hoping Day, Pruitt, or Fitz can keep the heat on Poyser or get some snaps, because imo Poyser was mediocre (again it was game #1, I'm still optimistic with him)

2. LB (especially Toure) in coverage. I like a lot about our LB crew. But I really think we need Pruitt (0 snaps?) on the field in obvious passing situations. Let's just say that breakdown which basically blew the lead and could have blown the game for us…Wasn't the first time Toure looked lost in coverage to me. If he is on the field 3rd and long or against a heavy passing team, he needs to be blitzing or put Pruitt (0 snaps) in the game. That being said, Toure is very physical against he run and definitely had his moments in that aspect.

3. Kicking game…Obviously. One of those makes was ugly and the kid has not had a good career with FGs. Great to see him win the game though no doubt. On the plus side Joyce continues to develop and looked good.

4. Depth at nickle…K.Scott was one of the best players on both teams on the field last night and the best in our back 7. It's a little strange to me that Isaiah Taylor and a walk-on were behind him on the depth chart. Hope this is just CMC being vague or rewarding some good practice habits. Was hoping Brantley (0 snaps, is clearly #5 at CB) or Day, Ewald, etc…Could provide some depth here should Scott go down with injury. Just nitpicking I guess…And who knows maybe Taylor won the backup fair and square and is capable.

5. Not to jump on wagon or sound cliche…But the stupid *** penalties and timeouts. A delay of game out of halftime??? While I watched our QB and RB do a secret handshaking before they lined up?

I think everything else is nitpicking, and I really believe Trader will give the WRs a jolt. We aren't one of the nation's best WR group at the moment, but I think the stuff above is bigger concerns. Bell got beat a couple times and doesn't look dominant just yet, etc…TE wasn't involved much, but I think will be as the weeks progress. Lofton did catch a big pass when called upon and blocked all night. But we are pretty **** good area and a dangerous team, those are just some items that caught my eye.
Staying healthy. If we stay healthy, it’s going to be a big year

The team is stacked with talent and depth IMO.
Don’t really see any weaknesses including solid special teams.
Main concern is coaching :
1. Mario has not changed at all in clock/ game management, he is the worst in CFB
Will cost us a game at some point this season
2.OC— Needs to get more creative.
Running game-needs more variety( eg. Pitch sweeps, stretch runs , counter treys reversed)
Passing game:more play action on 1 st downs
Incorporate screens, swing passes, flat passes
QB bootlegs in addition to downfield passing
3.DC—-Dont know enough about the guy yet,but based on this game needs to blitz more and put pressure on QBs especially inside red zone

Time management, good grief, CJ save the coaches butts, with his catch. We burned timeouts, then we were so methodical on that drive before half time, we almost kill the clock.
