Trust me I love the inside info. After all these years you learn there are a few guys who are right way more then they are wrong. But in the end the idea of "how did they mess this up/how did they misread" is another go to on message boards. You know the staff doesnt get a "feeling" a kid commits then just stop recruiting him. I'm willing to bet Mario and other Off coaches were on this kid up until the commitment. Mario wasnt walking around telling some analyst or secretary "we got him spread the word on message boards." Probably quite the opposite. With agents, handlers, parents, etc all coaches on all teams are aware of what is going on and they also are smart enough to know "im committing" doesnt mean anything with some kids.
I know we wont stop recruiting some of these kids, but like I said boy I hope we keep progressing up the chain and can get to a point where we can say "you know what, f you and when it doesnt work out or you dont like it somewhere get in line because we arent taking you just because you grew up down the street." So really unless your source is Mario I'd take all info with a grain of salt.
Miami isnt some huge state school with 10's of thousands of alums who bleed orange and green all within two hours of campus. Its 2025, "the state of Miami" needs to be thrown away and we need to embrace the idea that we are more like Notre Dame(gross I know) in the sense that we have a national pull assuming we keep getting better. I live just outside Savannah now and I have probably seen 10-15 cars with UM alum plates in the few years I have been here. I have seen next to no other schools outside of GA/GA Southern then the smaller states schools and a sprinkling of Clemson/SC and a few UF's but not many. When I lived outside Philly I used to go to an LA fitness that had 8-10 people always decked out in Miami stuff. PSU/Pitt, smaller state schools and Miami
Also I love data, info, etc. But what happened 5, 10, 15 years ago, etc is completely irrelevant to today. The college game has been reshaped immensely the past 3-4 years with NIL, The P2 push, etc and will continue to change the next few years as coaches/players/programs learn to adjust. Lets hope Mario and Miami continue to adjust and try to stay near the front. Mario is changing the narrative of QB Killer/Bro ball, Miami fans need to let go of recreating the glory years.
And I want some green and orange Nike's. /rant
