2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

I understand that part of it.....but I'm sure with Texas getting involved the price went up significantly.

Everything is relative. At the higher price point I'd much rather spend that money elsewhere. We're good at RB. I think Lyle is going to be a star.
Yeah, I agree all around. He really needs to get to the ACCCG and not get embarrassed there at a minimum in my opinion.

Mario’s whiffs at coordinator: Gattis, Steele, Guidry has really set this rebuild back
That’s another thing brushed aside by the St. CoRchibal loyalists. They blame Guidry and Gattis before that when Mario hired those guys.

But, but, but mom wants him home. **** that ****

You make this argument all the time but it really doesn’t hold any weight. The latter part of your post is obviously correct, this is his team now and this is a massive year. But Kirby Smart took Mark Richt’s 9-3 team and went 8-5. Nick Saban took Mike Shula’s 6-6 team and went…6-6. It’s way more complicated than just the head coach changed. ****, Deboer took over the best program in America and went 9-3, and I think they’re gonna win the SEC this year. For better or worse, it takes time to make a program yours. I’m not saying just pretend like Year 1 doesn’t happen, but it’s really not indicative of anything. Year 2 was better but he still ****ed up things like taking a knee. Year 3 was even better but we still didn’t get there.

Idk, I put a lot more stock into that than “he took manny’s team and was worse”. Yeah, that’s the literal result. But there’s a ton that goes into that.

Regardless, we all know and agree manny is an afterthought at this point and it’s imperative we continue to build. The only thing that’s gonna change narratives is to actually change them. Start winning things of significance.
Right. He took manny’s team and was worse, hired multiple coordinators in a row, and not because they were poached, and then he took Cam Ward and the easiest schedule in years and missed the ACCCG. Got it. Dude needed to win last year. We’ll see if that changes this year. I doubt it but that’s why the games are played.

Lanning tried and flipped Mario’s roster as fast as Mario did the same here with Manny’s roster. Lanning wasn’t thrilled with what he was left with any more than Mario was here.
This is simply not true. Just because you go to the portal doesnt mean you try to flip the roster. Oh and for the Mario took Manny's 7 win to 5, Lanning took Mario 10 win team and won 9 in the regular season.

The nonsense that some posters on this board spouts off all the time to try and diminish anything Mario has done is astonishing.

Its like you cant give him any credit.

When coaches leave so do players that played for him or was committed. Oregon lost players that needed to be replaced. Decommits and transfers:

To name a few:

Kelvin Banks
Cam Williams
Tetoria McMillin

Tre Benson
Travis Dye
Kingsley O
D.j. James
Jayson Jones
Mycah Pittman

texas has recruited this kid for a grand total of 2 months lol

he previously was a uga commit. Now i know mario is gonna continue to recruit him but man......i got mallory if it was me i would save my money and find something else.
This is concerning considering he’s been Mario’s priority for years now. Texas came out of no where and dropped a crazy bag because they whiffed on others. We also fumbled in ways i can’t share here but this and other major prospects are a bad look on the entire staff.

These are both true…Plenty of reason for concern

But so was the post you were commenting to…He did progress in year 3 while Diaz did regress.
I think he’s better than Manny and agree with your previous post about raising the floor. I’ve posted a bunch of times that I think he’s stabilized the situation - like if he were gone tomorrow, we’re hiring from a better position than we were when we hired him. It’s not the result I ultimately hope for, but it’s necessary. First and foremost we need to be seen as at least a functional situation. I think he does that. My feeling though is that someone else will need to take the next step but maybe he’ll do it this year and that would be great, believe me.

I am fortunate enough to have gotten a lot of good winning years out of this team after growing up in an era when we weren’t good. I’m actually fine if I never see a canes natty again in my lifetime but I do want to see a competitive program that’s competent and respected.

@gacaneaddict you’re not concerned about this? This wasn’t a problem.
No, not at all.

If you think our schedule was easy, go look at Clemsons and SMUs conference schedule.

Our great QB was offset by the worst secondary I've seen at Miami in decades.

If Mario had Cam and our 2018 defense and had same results I would be worried.

Im not holding Mario accountable for 2 decades of sucking. We are so much better overall as a program now than when he took over. It's not even close. Bigger, Faster, Stronger, tougher, more talented, more depth, actually ran like a top 10ish type football program.
