2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

Texas board has been saying they got tired of missing out and decided to go all in on Cooper

Probably offering him an obscene amount that no one else can match
The storyline though will be "Cooper says relationship with the coaches and their winning tradition is what ultimately led him to choosing the Longhorns".

I see it as we won't match now but probably will or best it later in the season. Could be wrong because his first point was Cooper was a Miami lean the whole time.
Yeah, I would rather us match later down the road closer to signing day. Similar to what Michigan did with Bryce Underwood, get him to visit late and flip last minute

Hard to say this far out. They are still going to try and flip Cooper if he commits to Texas. I don’t see the contract being an issue there if he changes his mind.

This isn’t the main reason (we need to win more and recruit better), but I heard Cooper likes Texas’s depth chart better next year. They have missed more than I thought at that position.
You’d think not having to run the ball 50 times a game would be a feature, not a bug.

1. Lincoln is a known winner and they are Big 10 now which helps. Anomoly year for them though and probably spending big. Inflated currently due to # of commits
3. Agreed on TAMU, but they SEC and will pay any amount necessary

Comparing our situation to ND and UT is laughable. ND just played for a national title and UT for a shot at the title game and they are the bluest of bloods in the sport. The **** are you even talking about?

Having to win to keep sf kids home and why does UM need to win to change the narrative about this program when others who are in the same boat don't. You think sf kids give a **** or even know what a blue blood is or mean? I only stated what I think is wrong with kids not wanting or feel obligated to stay home and go to UM.

Lincoln is trash
**** the BIG
**** the SEC
Blue bloods means nothing
Miami has to to win because this the U not because we want kids to come play here!!

You are clueless to the perception of the program. These kids weren’t alive when we last won anything meaningful. All they’ve seen are 7-5 seasons in an empty rent a stadium followed by a loss in some cheez-its bowl. Their most recent memories are us getting embarrassed by FIU, LaTech, MTSU. It takes time to get rid of that stink.

The hometown kids they looked up to growing up all went to Bama, OSU, etc and balled out and made it to the league. That’s what they see.

Agree w other posters here
Just pay coop whatever it takes
At this point, he may not be worth it on the field, but more of optics. Keeping THE KID home is a breath of fresh air before the season and gives us some momentum.
Our class is very good, but he changes the perception to excellent
It may not necessarily that simple. Kids are not selling their services on ebay with money being the only factor.

That's cool and all but, don't ***** about not getting a kid from sfla if the Jeremiah Smiths of the world and ever other 5 star goes off to other programs and ball out, because thats what the youth from sfla see!! Why do you keep moving the goal post. You still have not address what I said is the underlying problem with the kids from sfla. Being able to move schools at will to either go to a better situation or for monetary reasons. Loyalty!!

That's 2x you throw out insults....why you making this personal? These are my opinions!!

I honestly don’t even know what you are trying to say.

The problem is not with the kids down here. It’s the trash product we’ve put out for two decades, and the fact that it takes time to change the perception of the program. Mario doesn’t exactly do himself any favors either.

You talk about it being a loyalty problem when we don’t even have fans show up to half our games. Then you wonder why a kid may be drawn to the idea of playing in a sold out stadium on CBS.

You’re a parent of one of these kids, you sending your kid to go play for golden or manny over saban? We opened the flood gate ourselves and now those kids saw their role models ball out at top programs and said hmm maybe I can do the same. All the while we’re getting bent over by mid teams in the ACC.

It’s going to take awhile to reverse that trend, and winning is the best remedy since it’s directly in the programs control. Conference, atmosphere, etc problem are what they are. Just win.
