2026 Derrek Cooper 5* RB/ATH from Chaminade Commits to Texas

His info was consistent with every other insider - bullishly optimistic about Cooper.
Correct, and they rely on what the staff is telling them. The staff has been caught misreading kids for three straight cycles now. In 24 they recovered and closed strong, last year they did not. Let’s see what happens this year but again this is now 3 straight cycles where they thought they had guys locked up and it wasn’t the case during the summer.

I agree with your assessment about misreading kids. Which makes me wonder how many other staffs are doing the same (likely many), but more importantly, it makes me wonder why anyone continues to believe the overly optimistic assessments. At some point we are the fools for believing them.

I stopped believing the optimistic assessments long ago. FWIW I think isn't unique to us. Every team staff can have difficulty with this. The kids generally tell them what they want to hear. And as a salesman you are habitually optimistic. This gets filtered to the "insiders" who probably prefer to provide us fans with good news. Best advice is always fade the insider news.

I have this same attitude with Spring practice reports. It's just human nature that reports are going to be positive. Do you really expect a coach to tell a reporter "Players X and Y are mediocre."

He said that the staff had given him and his crew the cold shoulder for a while now. This is how utterly stupid our coaching staffs continue to be. Instead of leaving their egos at the door, they always have to be the smartest guys in the room. @1murhurricane was bringing them tremendous prospects that we could’ve had, but staff didn’t take many of them seriously, or passed on them.

Same story as previous staffs that have done the same exact thing. I’ve said it time and time again. The head coach at Miami should have guys like @gogeta, @Menmon, and @1murhurricane on here as talent liaisons that could help them in evaluating and landing some of these kids.

**** nah w @gogeta4!! The team will ONLY be from South Florida; QB, WR, TE, RB, OL, DL LB, CB, S, P, K, LS, Water Boy! Fck that ****. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’ll just say this…

In life, nothing is guaranteed. U can’t make matter of fact statements about others. I remember when LBJ made his infamous declaration of him taking his talents to Miami (btw, do we realize Kobe was the 1st to use this line when he declared for the NBA?);

Chris Broussard said all reports indicate LBJ is going to Chicago, & he had us Bulls fans excited for a couple of weeks. Then the meeting happened in Chicago, & he doubled down, UNTIL things changed. He had to then walk back his definitive comments as his “sources” changed narratives.

On CIS, never say “Cane Lock” or “Cane.” This staff has been misreading kids for a min, & I know this factually. Also, & more importantly, these kids r being controlled by a lot of outside entities in this NIL era, so take info w a grain of salt; ****, take commitments w a grain a salt until they enroll. EVEN THEN, take an enrollee w a grain of salt b/c of the transfer portal!! That’s how wild CFB is now.

With that said, there’s no need to try to embarrass or attack ppl who r genuinely trying to report info; but, at the same time if u’re reporting info, hedge it. It would behoove u not to make definitive statements creating false expectations. That’s the best advice I can give to the board & all those that contribute to “inside” info as someone who’s not only been an observant fan, but one who deals w recruits & parents more today than ever before.

The problem is listening to Chris Broussard. Lol

Yall keep making the mistake of saying @1murhurricane info was coming from the staff. He has consistently said that his info never was coming from the staff and was always more from the players+family or agents or something.
So you had him from that side AND all the other insiders from the staff/program side all agreeing about Cooper. Which it's probably because maybe the staff didn't misread ****, Texas just hopping in the recruitment and dropped a bag we wouldn't match, simple as that. The kid clearly was looking for any reason to leave, and we thought with us being his best offer and the local program that we'd win it. Turns out Texas was already mid air to grab the alley ooop and dunk it over our heads.

His info supposedly wasn't from the staff. Rest of the post is spot on.

Disaster if they did that. According to fans though we would win a natty lol. We would be at the bottom. Just get the top guys in sfla (which we can’t do) and get top OOS stars. (Which we can’t do at an elite level)

So good luck lol

No, no, no. You can’t ask me what my “accountability measure” is without answering my question first.

When can we hold him accountable?

It seems like you’re saying we can’t do it in year 4. So, when can we?

Next year? Year 6? Do we need to give him the full 10 before we can? C’mon now, let us know. Don’t hold back.
11.5 years

Weren’t these kids being controlled by a lot of outside entities prior to the NIL era? Entities such as “mentors”.

And depending on how big the bag was, it’s not that Miami couldn’t match it for one player, it’s more that Miami couldn’t match it for all players.

funny enough bc Broussard was right when Lebron left for Cleveland from miami (I think he had the early copy of the Jenkins SI article).

I think the story was though that Lebron wade bosh would have gone there if they could get all 3 under the cap but they couldn't. the heat did and it was history
