I am older. I remember when the Canes sucked on the football field. We didn't demand a God**** thing. We prayed for a good showing. Yes, we got better, Schnelly got us the first national championship but we did not call out individual players if they missed a pass, a tackle, a block or an int. **** we didn't know the names of individual coaches back then besides the offensive and defensive coordinators. Jimmy came along and he made us better. We did see some individual criticism of players when he played all freshmen DB's and they played badly during 1984 (think Maryland and BC that year) but no one called for scholarships to be revoked or coached to be fired other than JJ. Even during Erickson, we trusted his coaching, and it was very good and we didn't have the insanity of wanting coaches to be fired or scholarships to be revoked. And you know what, when the fans weren't asses, the team did very well.
The community supported the team. When Butch was hired under crippling sanctions, and he did not immediately win, things changed. Suddenly fans thought flying banners was cool. It was NOT given the sanctions against the team! But it coincided with the internet at the time. And we went from community support of the team to the beginning of internet rule that remains to this day. It hasn't made this team better. It has made us worse. Before Butch left, banners flew and everyone was calling for Coker's head before we won the natty. After Butch left, Coker won and the fans still jumped at the chance to fly banners. Every time they did so, we lost recruits to FSU and UF. Because what high school kid wants to play at a school that wins and sees their coaches being demanded to be fired by the fan base.
You call it demanding perfection? I call it you being an *** and destroying the program. There was only ONE coach where the banner was justified, Al Golden. The rest of the coaches and their recruits were poisoned by the fan base and never given the time they needed to succeed. If someone expected complete and total perfection from you at work you would totally fail. But you put this crap on 18 year old kids and think it is a winning strategy. I am going to say this very clearly for you - it is nothing more than a recipe for failure and disaster. Do not expect perfection from ANYONE in your life. It will lead to failure whether in business, friendship, love, marriage, sports or generally in life. It may feed your ego but it is a losing strategy in life.
