Demanding Perfection

We’ve been great fans since Richt got here. We’ve changed the narrative on Miami fans.

No more half empty stadium pictures pregame.
No more home games where the opposing teams fans outnumbered or matched ours.
No more neutral sites where we barely attended.

Can Richt change the narrative on him as a head coach? So far? No.

He still wins a lot of games but not the big ones and his qb play is suspect just like at UGA outside of Murray and Stafford.

Until one of those change I’m gonna assume he is what he was at UGA. I don’t want Richt to be here for 15 years and do the same thing he did there.

He didn't really make a horrible read. He just couldn't quite get the ball to his target with that punctured lung and all.

What I heard was he called the wrong protection on that final disaster. It was a schit show that last play.

I am older. I remember when the Canes sucked on the football field. We didn't demand a God**** thing. We prayed for a good showing. Yes, we got better, Schnelly got us the first national championship but we did not call out individual players if they missed a pass, a tackle, a block or an int. **** we didn't know the names of individual coaches back then besides the offensive and defensive coordinators. Jimmy came along and he made us better. We did see some individual criticism of players when he played all freshmen DB's and they played badly during 1984 (think Maryland and BC that year) but no one called for scholarships to be revoked or coached to be fired other than JJ. Even during Erickson, we trusted his coaching, and it was very good and we didn't have the insanity of wanting coaches to be fired or scholarships to be revoked. And you know what, when the fans weren't asses, the team did very well.

The community supported the team. When Butch was hired under crippling sanctions, and he did not immediately win, things changed. Suddenly fans thought flying banners was cool. It was NOT given the sanctions against the team! But it coincided with the internet at the time. And we went from community support of the team to the beginning of internet rule that remains to this day. It hasn't made this team better. It has made us worse. Before Butch left, banners flew and everyone was calling for Coker's head before we won the natty. After Butch left, Coker won and the fans still jumped at the chance to fly banners. Every time they did so, we lost recruits to FSU and UF. Because what high school kid wants to play at a school that wins and sees their coaches being demanded to be fired by the fan base.

You call it demanding perfection? I call it you being an *** and destroying the program. There was only ONE coach where the banner was justified, Al Golden. The rest of the coaches and their recruits were poisoned by the fan base and never given the time they needed to succeed. If someone expected complete and total perfection from you at work you would totally fail. But you put this crap on 18 year old kids and think it is a winning strategy. I am going to say this very clearly for you - it is nothing more than a recipe for failure and disaster. Do not expect perfection from ANYONE in your life. It will lead to failure whether in business, friendship, love, marriage, sports or generally in life. It may feed your ego but it is a losing strategy in life.

I've been going to Canes games since the days a $5 bill to the lady working the turnstile got you in. I guarantee many of the he same people worshiping Butch on the regular are the same ones who screamed for his head in the worst years, especially after 66-13 Syracues in year 4 and the 43-10 beatdown at VT in year 5.

I sat in that OB year after year listening to him get called every name in the book and anyone who says they saw the 2001 team coming at that time is a liar. It was a miserable, joyless time.

To many on here that great team was their first taste of UM football. That definitely was a glorious time.

But spend the rest of your life waiting for Butch or any coach to reproduce that will leave you angry and incapable of making objective observations about your team. I see it here with some people's incessant, never ending shots taken at Richt.

If you can't see what a program legitimizing, team changing hire he has been, then your perspective is beyond repair.

It's HARD to win 10 games. Look at the programs who have every advantage financially, traditionally and roster wise who NEVER do it. And it was only year two.

He's buidling something here to last over the long haul, with the intention of seeing it all the way through .Something NO coach has done here, ever.

Dorsey took a lot of heat in 2002.

I saw the 2001 team coming in 2000....a matter of fact....you could see a bright future after beating GT in 99/2000 Bowl game...

The Banner hurt Butch...(I was standing 30ft away)...It hurt because he was doing his best to right a ship that hit an Iceberg with the previous regime....If most people knew how hard Butch and Staff worked (recruiting...and Gameplanning) from 95-2000...they'd be amazed....All this Butch wasn't a good gameday coach BS.....LoL....Would love to see how great a Gameday coach Saban...Urb...and Dabo would be down 31 schollies...no bowl or TV for a yr...and the #1 sports publication calling for the end of the program....

Y’all are misremembering that game.

The last play was a glorious pass breakup by Glen Sharpe to secure our sixth title.

Agree 100% that it hurt Butch and the team. Just as some of the shots taken at players, coaches, and team, by posters on here could hurt the team effort today. The internet and social media gets word quickly to recruits, players, families and they see what a divided fan base can do.

1. If you think 01 will happen again, it won’t. That
I don't demand perfection, my expectations are commiserate with the talent level of the players & the Coach.

If Richt is as great as people say he is then shouldn't we expect great results? And if year 3 is too early then when? (I'm being for real, tell me when so I can stfu about it lol)

Should I just lower my expectations? I'm asking honestly, because I don't want to come off as a whiny fan, I just call it as I see it.

The season ain't over yet & I'm still as hopeful as anyone we go on a run & win every game, its just going to take a lot to go in our favor for that to happen.

You shouldn’t expect less, but to expect the 80s or 00s after being so far removed from those times in new age cfb where there are no more diamonds in the rough esp in sfl immediately is a little ridiculous. Even Florida, who has been a mess since urban left, had three conference title game appearances and a sugar bowl. We’ve just did that one time, last year.

2000's will be known as the bag days in CFB. Scandals sometimes take a long time to uncover.

All this Butch wasn't a good gameday coach BS.....LoL....Would love to see how great a Gameday coach Saban...Urb...and Dabo would be down 31 schollies...no bowl or TV for a yr...and the #1 sports publication calling for the end of the program....

But he wasn't a great gameday coach. Time management, knowing when to go for two, etc., were valid complaints.

I told my wife after the Toledo game that this was my last away game for a while I swear we are surrounded my so-called Miami fans that were complaining about every play. Even when we got 6 yards on the running play or we got a first down. I swear they must only read only these forum repeated the exact same thing over. My wife was thinking it sound like they almost wanted Miami to fail so they can say that they're right. I know at home games are still tons people like this but it's not as much at least we have some educated fans at home still. I just want to enjoy it for what it is.
Wow, you must not have been on Canes forums during the early 2000s lol.

The thing I don't get is this false narrative that our great teams basically went out there and dominated every team they faced.
It simply was not true.

People around here making it seem like a true Canes team would have gone up to Toledo and blown them out of the water for four quarters.

I guess the 1987 National Championship team was not a true Canes team because they kind of struggled with an even worse Toldeo team in the Orange Bowl.

People just love complaining for the sake of complaining.

Just so some of the late comers know, even in early 2000’s Miami fans always found anything to complain about.

It’s who we have always been as fans. anyways, I think everyone knows we have something real good brewing.
If they fix QB and OL and ST. I mean WTF is up? Amirite?!?!
(I keed...sort of)

I know. Cool story bro.
That's what fans do! With all the hype from the coaches this off season, I was expecting a better product for the first game. We did know we were going to play LSU. We did know LSU was big and physical and when your team goes and lays an egg the first game, after all the hype. Come on man, that didn't hurt? Well, it hurt me, I'm hurt dawg. Sound familiar? If it didn't hurt you, look in the mirror "Your not a fan".

WEZ flew the banner proving all fan boards are not the same, JMO

That wasn’t complaining

That was the WEZ saving our program from the dumpster fire Shalala lit

The WEZ deserves mention in the UM hall of fame for that crusade (wipes tear drop)
