Delaney will continue to play. 'Doing a good job'

Here's what happened on the TD that most people probably thought was Delaney's fault.

Delaney is lined-up with inside leverage on the #1 . He's giving up the outside. He's likely told to do this because we saw all of our CB's do this a handful of times during the game.

The #1 and #2 WR's go vertical. Delaney lets his WR got outside of him and down the sideline.

The LB carries the #2 WR vertical. Redwine rolls over and covers the #2 WR as well. Carter was likely supposed to roll over the top of Delaney and cover that vertical route from #1 but instead he stayed over the top of #2 . (which is why we have 3 guys covering #2 and nobody covering #1 )

That TD is on Carter.

I'm not ready to rag on Delaney just yet, not until we figure out WTF we're doing on defense.

Yea I'm not ready either, but I'm getting there.

Would you have expected Richt to say Delaney sucks instead?
What were your expectations when he got the inevitable, if not obvious, question about him playing poorly?
If he says he is trash then you and other posters will accuse him of throwing his players under the bus.

He should have been bland, generic, innocuous, boring, and evasive.

'We all need to play better' type stuff. Now DD can rest on his laurels.

LMAO. Yes, Richt's postgame press conferences is where Dee is discovering his inspiration. Suck all of the ****s.

More on Delaney from Coach Richt after Sunday evening practice:

Richt compared cornerback Dee Delaney to “a five-star recruit. Everyone expects him to be a world-beater. He needs to learn what to do. … Everybody wanted to brag about him. He’s got to learn.” Richt said Delaney has to be better, but he needs time to be coached. “We got faith in the kid,” he said.

Since when does it make sense to play inside leverage on what looks to be cover two with twins to your side of the field? Yea, the td is on Carter, but DD's alignment and technique was crap. He needs to get a hand on the WR....can't allow a free release.

There was a couple of breakdowns like this. My frustration with Delaney is actually more on some of the man to man situations on third and short. Seems like he got beat for countless first downs. May just be me though

one of many, hope he gets it together...

My bigger concern was the busted coverages, some guys playing zone some guys playing man, that kind of crap can't happen

Big, physical Corners need to play physical. We press with him and there's no jam whatsoever. That's elementary stuff. And the jam will give at least 1 second more for the defensive line/blitzers to feast.

The first question to Mark Richt on Sunday’s day-after-Toledo teleconference was about redshirt senior cornerback Dee Delaney‘s “tough” transition from FCS The Citadel to UM.

“He’s still learning the ins and outs of what we do,” Richt said. “We feel he’s in a good place. He has not played perfect, but everybody at all positions has struggled. He’s at a position that’s more visible than most, and I guess there’s more interest in him because he’s a transfer.

“We think he’s doing a good job. We believe in him and we’re going to continue to play him.”

Richt’s review: What Miami Hurricanes coach said after watching Toledo | Canes Watch

You can only go with what you got.........they can't go out in free agency and find another corner. I'd like to see them play Bandy more but give it time and let them try to correct things. The problem with us fans is we want to throw players to the trash heep quickly while coaches know they gotta work with them and fix problems. You can't go full crazy after every game.

Nevermind, he's terrible.

Re-watching the game now and he's being beat like a drum.

What gave you that impression? The numerous targets or the numerous catches?

The numerous times I saw him get completely shook on a route. He was gettin' his a$$ broke off.

Oh yea, there were plays where he got spinned so bad he looked like he just came out of the dryer.

On simple five yard curl routes too! WR ran straight, turned toward the QB, and Delaney had to do a full 360 just to figure out what happened.

Yeah, was about to say... Probably midway through the second quarter I noticed the trend of where Woodside was aiming his throws and Dee was his primary victim over and over again. Delaney was getting beat on just about every play. Don't forget that there were another 4-5 plays where his man was wide open but dropped the pass.

Statistically he had to be responsible for about 150-200 passing yards.

With all that being said, I'm glad Richt stood up for him - his confidence is = shook enough already. Get him in the film room and build him back up.

CMR knows DD confidence is hanging by a thread right now. Can't have the ole head ball coach pile on. Like it or not we will have to play with Dee throughout the year. Lets just hope he gets into game shape and starts to figure it out.

This is correct. We don't have much behind him due to Folden's errors so we have to make due with what we have. I bet DD becomes a beast by season's end though as the talent is there he just has to stop thinking and playing .
