Delaney will continue to play. 'Doing a good job'

Would you have expected Richt to say Delaney sucks instead?
What were your expectations when he got the inevitable, if not obvious, question about him playing poorly?
If he says he is trash then you and other posters will accuse him of throwing his players under the bus.

He should have been bland, generic, innocuous, boring, and evasive.

'We all need to play better' type stuff. Now DD can rest on his laurels.

Uhhhh,

"He has not played perfect, but everybody at all positions has struggled."

I'm glad you're ok with him saying 'he's doing a good job'. I'm not thrilled.

He did what you said, you're just complaining to complain. Do you honestly believe Richt thinks Delaney has played great? If not, then do you think Richt has ulterior motives from him starting? Or do you think Richt is purposely sabotaging the defense for starting him?

What's the point of all of this other than you getting butt hurt over coach speak?

I talking football, CARLOS. I'm not complaining. That's like saying 'you're reading a football forum, just to read about football.' Chill brother.

For those of you that are upset, I'm always confused as to what you expect coaches to say in these instances?

He acknowledged that everybody needs to get better including the individual in question, move on and rip something else to shreds.

It's like an AD giving a vote of confidence to a struggling coach. Coach could get fired the next weekend. Means nada. He also didn't say Delaney is going to start.

"he's still learning" has nothing to do with tripping over your own feet... missing easy tackles...getting lost after turning the wrong way....and not staying with your man one on one....its definitely time to give Dean and Bandy more time outside.

Why?
Delaney knows he is stinking it up and so does his coaches.
Get him coached up and playing better, he doesn't need to rip on him in public to make us fans feel better.

I agree that he should not rip him in public. However, he gave the dude a full-vouch. Never go full-vouch.
no, people love getting lied too.

Translation : "If you think he's bad, what we have on the bench is even worse. Invest in some lube and hold on for the ride"

No sense piling on a kid for play that is just as related to scheme and lack of communication as it is his own shortcomings.

If you expect Rick to go full blast on a player to the media, you're pretty much stupid and don't know Rick. He has no problem tearing into players, neither do the other coaches, they're just not going to call them out by name in the media. It would actually be a pretty stupid thing to do, but some of you are so shallow minded you can't understand that

Sometimes people need to get lied to if the wrong question is asked.
The reporters do their job asking the obvious question, the HC does not owe them or the fans
a truthful answer.

Didn't read anywhere where Richt said Delaney will continue to start for us. He said he'll continue to play, which he will. But starting and playing are two vastly different things.

I remember Kenny Kelly having an abysmal game vs East Carolina in that game in 1999.
Dude couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, especially in the second half.
I remember after the game Butch telling the reporters that Kelly had a great game, or words to that
effect. Yet it was obvious he stunk in that game and others as well and eventually Dorsey took over.
Butch never put Kelly on blast, nor did he have to when it was obvious what was happening.

The first question to Mark Richt on Sunday’s day-after-Toledo teleconference was about redshirt senior cornerback Dee Delaney‘s “tough” transition from FCS The Citadel to UM.

“He’s still learning the ins and outs of what we do,” Richt said. “We feel he’s in a good place. He has not played perfect, but everybody at all positions has struggled. He’s at a position that’s more visible than most, and I guess there’s more interest in him because he’s a transfer.

“We think he’s doing a good job. We believe in him and we’re going to continue to play him.”

To thought Dean and young should of have been starting cb and Trajan @ nickel . Never liked that Delaney and Jackson starter stuff. Now I think you're right with the dbs and move young to nickel. Move Deejay to db the rbs looked solid even chocolate looked real good

I would love to see what Dallas could do on D....nothing to lose you either have it or you don't.....Delaney and Jackson are serviceable backups at best....IMO

I wanna see a switch of young and redwine at corners with amari carter and knowles at safety

how do you even have a camp that young had and you DON'T start?

diaz is about to lose half this fan base if they don't put on a show at duke

Translation- "We don't have enough bodies to fill the secondary"

They could have taken more bodies the last two recruiting cycles. Part of me believes the reason they didn't was due to the insane depth at DB in the 2018 class. They can honestly tell ALL those recruits now, "You can play right away." It darn sure doesn't help us this season, though.

Were gonna be realllllly fired up at Duke. This team is going to thrive on the road. Screenshot this one. Guarenteed.

Here's what happened on the TD that most people probably thought was Delaney's fault.

Delaney is lined-up with inside leverage on the #1 . He's giving up the outside. He's likely told to do this because we saw all of our CB's do this a handful of times during the game.

The #1 and #2 WR's go vertical. Delaney lets his WR got outside of him and down the sideline.
Miami7.webp

The LB carries the #2 WR vertical. Redwine rolls over and covers the #2 WR as well. Carter was likely supposed to roll over the top of Delaney and cover that vertical route from #1 but instead he stayed over the top of #2 . (which is why we have 3 guys covering #2 and nobody covering #1 )
Miami8.webp

That TD is on Carter.

I'm not ready to rag on Delaney just yet, not until we figure out WTF we're doing on defense.
