Defensive tackle

For years, we've made jokes about Miami's lack of defensive tackles. Those jokes need to be retired now. Based on what I've seen in camp, and barring major injuries, this has a chance to be one of the top groups in the entire country.

Richard McIntosh and Kendrick Norton are top-of-the-food-chain DTs with size, first step quickness and motors. McIntosh is more of an athletic pass rusher with his basketball background, and Norton is a wrecking ball with burst off the snap and powerful lower body. They will both play in the NFL.

Gerald Willis bulked up over the summer and has been terrorizing our second team OL. He's probably the team leader in TFLs due to his quickness, savvy and ability to get skinny in gaps. Anthony Moten and Courtel Jenkins are behind those three, but they would have been better than virtually all of our starting DT duos since the early 2000s. Both guys are 315+ with good first steps.

Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but Coach Kool's track record suggests that he will produce an elite unit. He has the physical talent to work with. And the beauty of this group is that, because they go five deep, he can demand an extreme level of effort. I cannot wait to see what these guys can do.

Please don't mess with me like this D$...PLEASE. I want it to be true so bad, if it is...this is seriously the best news that I've seen or heard regarding my Canes in at least 10+ years.

Blows my mind that Golden could improve the talent on the D-line the way he did, and do so little with it.

Ive said it before and I will say it again......Al Golden couldn't get laid at the bunny ranch. He has never and will never win **** because he is a fraud.

Moten and Jenkins are not very good.

Nobody would even recruit Norton for DT...only OG. He is starting because that's how bad our depth is.

Willis will prove to be the best player, and I've got my fingers crossed on McIntosh. These two guys are the only Miami calibre DTs on the roster....just two players.

This is still one the worst units in the power 5 conferences once you take the orange and green glasses off.

Dont troll. You've been warned.

its not a troll. go back and read about Norton's recruitment. He wanted to go to UF and FSU and play DT, but they wanted him at OG.

Moten and Jenkins haven't done anything significant or stood out. yet someone posted that they will play in the NFL. did you give that poster a warning?

Just because you disagree or dont like what I say, doesn't make it a troll, so cut the crap already.

They clearly made the wrong evaluation, as he looked good playing as a true frosh. Just because UF and FSU made the wrong choice doesn't reflect on Norton's talent. I trust Kool's evaluation over yours.

When the coaches are saying they are good and everybody that sees them say they look good that has to mean something. Now we will see what they do in real games but they must be doing something right.

As for norton yes teams was recruiting him at og instead of dt but he showed flashes last year. Made a few big stops in the fsu game last year. Ive never been that high on jenkins but think moten can be solid.

A lot of lack of performance did have to do with scheme. Its hard to stand out when you are asked to just stand in your gap and eat up blocks so other guys can make plays.

Warren Sapp was a tightend . . . Clearly you are trolling. There are lots of posters I disagree with.

Guess Im glad they wanted him to play guard. Im also glad Penn State wanted Jim Kelly to be a linebacker.

Id say with your count, it is you who should cut it!

and Al Golden wanted Quincy Wilson at Safety so he went to UF to he could play CB...

God I hope you're right, but I'm finding it difficult to believe they'll be that good. If they are, I'm gonna punch al in his p*^^y.

Why is it hard to believe? There is enormous talent at DT combined with experience and the best DL coach in the country.

Experience and coaching I get, but when did the talent happen? Nobody has said a kind word about DT recruiting or talent in at least 2 years, so I'm wondering what's changed? To be clear, I expect a bunch of improvement (exp&coaching), I'm just not getting why the guys everyone *****ed about last year are talented this year.

You must not remember some going crazy calling norton the next wilfork. So many were very high on norton since fall camp last year. Mcintosh was a dude a lot of people were excited about coming out of high school. He wasnt highly ranked but he was a dude with size that was athletic. Many felt once he gets in a college weight room he would blow up.

Gerald willis was a highly recruited dude out of high school. Was a all american and consensus high 4 star-5 star recruit. Moten was a guy who had good offers coming out of high school. I never saw him as a superstar but a guy that can definitely be in the rotation and start in case of injury.

Ive personally have never been that high on jenkins but looks like a guy who could potentially be solid vs the run.

Willis is the only one I remember people getting real excited about. Maybe my al-blinders left me incapable of seeing any good comments.

The talent is there. I don't much care what recruiting gurus say about the DT position. It's an incredibly tough position to predict from HS to college, and the bust rate is very high.

Look at some of the purportedly super blue-chip DTs we missed--Keith Bryant, Jay-Tard Bostwick, Valentine. We missed on those guys, and that's why our recruiting at the position has been ridiculed. As it turned out, sometimes the 2nd choice at DT is better than the first. Folden actually got lucky missing on some overrated slobs.

Spot on. Michigan State and Stanford seem to always do a tremendous job of finding under the radar types that turn out to be really good players.

You have zero credibility for evaluating talent with how far up kevin olsens *** you were

for the last time....Olsen didn't fail because of talent. he didn't have it between the ears. Everyone that saw Olsen throw the ball said he was legit.

you don't know anything.

just eat crow and leave the evaluation to the real folks Kevin!
