?There is something suspicious going DOWN in the program
?There is something suspicious going DOWN in the program
I think one of our analyst was very impress with the UAB defensive coordinator earlier in the yearDan Quinn, Jim Leavitt, Charlie Strong
The defense held their opponent to 19 points or less in half of our games. Nobody's getting fired.
I read up on him a bit and he seems like a really great football mind. Texas DC changed his defense after they saw how Iowa State stifled their offense. Matt Rhule talked about how good of a defense it is, same with Lincoln Riley. And that's in a conference that sees explosive offenses similar to UNC's, week after week (and at a school that shouldn't bring in half the talent we could to employ the defense). This list times TEN.
John Heacock is running a defense that Brent Venables visited to learn how to stop the spread. Their scheme would be amazing at Miami. But, it’s not a 4-3 so the idiot brigade would be ****ed.
Yep!!!My wishlist is Manny saying hey, my defense isn’t working so let’s go elsewhere. Hires Muschamp as DC and TRob as DB coach. Instantly fixes the recruiting issue at CB and a real defensive scheme.
real problem is our coaching and practicesDoesn’t matter.
The real problem’s at the top.
Greg Schiano?

yesThe problems go beyond scheme.
Why do we always come out flat and unprepared?
Why so many stupid penalties?
Why does one side of the ball fall apart when the other side seizes momentum?
Why do we seemingly always give up a big kick return after we have a big TD drive?
Manny isn't head coach material. Maybe he could be one day, but he ain't it right now.
Manny is a ***** and his players are coddled and soft. If attitude reflects leadership then it doesn’t matter who we bring in as long as this pathetic excuse for a head coach sticks around.
Fwiw I believe we’re going to spend between 1.5 and 2 million on this DC. It’s the boards, Manny’s and Blake’s futures at The []_[] on the line. It’s not their money. If they don’t spend it now, they’ll be giving someone else the opportunity to do it, because they’ll be gone.Randy Bates - Pitt (Formal Naval Officer and came over from Northwestern to be Narduzzi's DC - great experience working under Fitz and Narduzzi)
Jim Knowles - OK State (Spent several years as Duke's DC - really turned around the D at OK state to a top 20 unit)
David Reeves - UAB (Worked under Clark for several years dating back to Jacksonville State - good pedigree)
Brian Borland - Buffalo (Has good numbers running the D at Buffalo - prior to that spent several years at D3 national power Wisconsin White Water and won several national championships and won numerous awards for the best coordinator at the lower level - a DB specialist)
Glenn Schumann - Georgia (Co-DC at UGA - would take over there if Lanning took a HC job or he would follow and be Lanning's DC - Great teacher and comes from the Saban and Smart tree. Would be the only one on this list that would be a big transition in scheme to a 3-3-5 but definitely well regarded and a logical next step)
Brad Lambert - Marshall (Spent several years as the HC at Charlotte jumpstarting that program from the ground-up. Very bright coach that is a good teacher and is a good recruiter. I was impressed with Marshall's defense watching them a few times - besides the Rice debacle. One of the top defenses in the country this year and the former HC experience made me put him on this list)
Fran Brown - Rutgers (Would have been Manny's DC at Temple if he stayed. Ended up being a Co-DC there for a year and then went to Rutgers. Never called plays but he's going to be a DC in the future. Worked under some really good coaches from his days at Temple under Rhule and now under Schiano - DB specialist and great recruiter - would likely be a Co-DC here)
Tyler Santucci - Texas A&M (Coaches linebackers under Elko and is the hot name for a lot of places including ND and now Vandy - both trying to replicate the Mike Elko system and he's basically the last one to know it. Never been a coordinator but will be in the near future)
Zach Arnett - Miss State (Rising star in coaching ranks. Still under 35 i believe. Came to Miss State with Leach from SDSU where his defensive rankings speak for themselves. Would be one of my top 3 choices)
Other names from college ranks if we could fork out the money - Alex Grinch (Oklahoma), Marcus Freeman (Cincinnati), Jim Leonard (Wisconsin), Phil Parker (Iowa), Jon Heacock (Iowa State) - All of these names would cost a lot more than I think we would spend - except maybe Freeman but I expect him to get a big job like Michigan or hold out and ride with Fickell if/when he gets another job)
For the record - I am strongly against the retreads like Muschamp and Strong. If i had to pick between the 2 it would be Strong hoping he's made some adjustments from his time at Alabama. Both of their last few stops have been worse products than anything Manny has ever done judging a full season.
I'll have to see it to believe it. Personally, I don't think Baker gets fired or "takes another job". I think he's here next year barring another debacle against Oklahoma State that just makes it completely impossible to keep him (45+ points and a boat raced Loss)Fwiw I believe we’re going to spend between 1.5 and 2 million on this DC. I do think we see a pretty good hire to be co-dc and coach secondary (or coach safeties or corners and hire a CBs coach as well) and that guy could potentially call plays and Blake gets "demoted"
I'd love to see one of those names though and see us completely retool the defensive staff. I hate having a separate CB/S coach staff makeup. They need to be coached by the same guy, learning the same thing, same communication, from the same mouth. Makes it a lot more smooth on the backend in my opinion. Then, hire a LB coach and a DC with no positional coaching responsibility.

Good. His geriatric *** would fit in well out there.Jed Fisch at Arizona is making a run at Don Brown
Lambert will get a P5 job soonWas impressed by Marshall defense this year
I saw Marshall at the top of the defensive rankings and had to look up the coordinator lol what’s Lamberts defensive philosophy? I saw that he worked under Grobe as a D cord at Wake but that’s about it.Lambert will get a P5 job soon
