Yeah that’s enough talent not to be dead last. Definitely not enough to be elite but enough to stop below average offenses in which we couldn’t

Why do you guys think Guidry’s defense was so abysmal? His scheme and the complexity of it or was Guidry just not a good connect for the guys?

Like I said this is purely for discussion and you guys opinion. I am a defensive guy so these discussions are interesting to me.

It’s plain and simple, Guidry ran out of ideas on how to make adjustments to stop things, because he didn’t have very many ideas from the start. That’s what happens when you bring someone up from a lower division. Once offensive coordinators, figure him out, he’s out of answers. Luckily, now, we have a defensive coordinator that has answers upon answers upon answers.

This. The defense was ok when he had a good secondary. The communication issues were inexcusable but that secondary we had in 2024 was a ton of kids who are going pro in something other than sports. There’s a reason Mario went and got 300 kids back there in the portal after the year.

I agree our personal was terrible but compared to the teams we were playing they should have performed better. Too many times we got out schemed.

Yes, that secondary is oooff! Meesh Powell was ok at times, but we went from being a good player at Washington to just a decent player for Miami, and that's a bit of a stretch to even say he was decent for us.

The front 7 was littered with NFL players. Yes, I know Bain and Messidor were injured off and on in 2024, but he had some talent there and they didn't produce. I'm not blaming the injuries on Guidry, but I am blaming the lack of production and poor tackling. Tyler Barron and Kiko went from looking like All-Americans after the UF game to virtually unplayable. Yet, the NFL thought Barron and Kiko were still good enough to be drafted and they are still on a roster as of now. Kiko had himself a nice little rookie season last year for the Jets.
 
I still remember going to the ga tech 24 game and the inability of our defense to lineup pre snap was jarring

You’re just rewriting history lol. Meesh played a smaller role at washington and was a nickel not safety if im not mistaken but either way it was a smaller role. The other corners besides dp2 were bad and dp2 played out of position majority of the year because we were trying to patch things together and it blew up in our face.

The front 7 was never going to cover up for how bad the secondary was, that was us coping. You rather point to a few good games players had instead of the overwhelming evidence on those players not being all american level. Did we not see Baron abandon the edge all season? Did we not see kiko literally get picked on every game? He was our worst player on defense lmao

I'm agreeing with you that our secondary was bad and Kiko and Baron were unplayable as I stated in my previous post. They were awful. Somehow, they are in the NFL. That's a major indictment on Guidry and his scheme and coaching. He's a bad DC and got exposed. He was actually exposed in 2023 by any team with a pulse. I was one of his strongest defenders in 2023, and everybody was back on board in 2024 after the UF game. Then teams started shifting and running more motion and we were cooked. Couldn't even come up with a game plan to stop a qb who literally could not throw the ball. Guidry is garbage. He may have some success at G5 or non P4 schools. If he gets another DC job at a P4 school, it's going to be a long season for his defense.

Yea i said in my first post it’s a breakdown of everything when you’re that bad but to me the main issue was by far the secondary personnel. I don’t think any coach overcomes that

But guidry isn’t blameless at all he deserves alot of blame as well that’s why i pointed out the front 7 issues because to me there was talent there and his scheme failed them for the most part

I'd say it was 90% him running constant stunts by our DLine (sidepoint on this being Not having a good enough DT so Mesidor could stay at EDGE) and Bad DBs play outside of OJ.

That 2024 secondary was one of the worst Miami secondary's that I've ever seen fielded since I've been watching football. I think Randy had a really bad one during one of his years. Either way, Guidry had no help in the secondary, that is true. OJ was his only good player and he was a true freshman.

I'm sure with some better players in the secondary, some of the games may not have gone down to the wire every time or have been close calls. May not have needed Cam to bail us out several games. Don't know if we could have overcome the GT game. That was just coaching malpractice from Mario and the entire staff.

We ran the same amount of stunts on last year's Defense too.

Every Defense does.

It's more to see a DLine that doesn't run stunts, than ones that do.

I extremely disagree. It's not about running stunts, it's the fact we ran stunts every ******* play in 2024. There is zero chance we ran as many last year.
 
The biggest thing that messed him up was having more dline bodies the second year. He was blessed in disguise when we ran out of bodies that first year and had to run 3 line fronts. His defense ran way better that way. Simpler calls and more people in coverage.
