DE Sahir West enters the Portal

Having NFL sized DEs in Bain and Mesidor was a big help stopping the run without having to dedicate an extra guy to the box, especially with how teams spread defenses out now.
I don’t think size at DE will be an issue next season. Loghtfoot is currently 230, if he adds an 20 pounds like he did last offseason he will be 250.

Returning 2026 DEs projecting 10-20 pound weight gain
JR Marquise Lightfoot 6-5 240 - 250
RSO Booker Pickett, 6-4 245 - 250
RSO Cole McConathy 6-5 270 - 280
SO Herbert Scroggins 6-3 265 - 275
RFR Hayden Lowe 6-5 265 - 275

None of those players have experience other then Lightfoot, who was only a pass rusher and you're expecting him to put 20lbs on in 8 months. Also if you expect him to go from 210 to 250 in 18 months and not slow down, that's impressive. While the other end will replace a 1-2 rounder.

Dude that’s some crazy weight gain expectations, is this D’Onofrio’s burner?

Lightfoot I think is capped out on weight and that’s fine because he’s in a speed role. Lowe is obviously the SDE body type and Blount can be that too if he doesn’t grow into 3 tech size. McConathy as well could potentially.

This is college football bro, every year there will be players who must play that do not have experience. Although Scroggins has been logging meaningful minutes, he also played against Texas A&M.

I do expect the staff to bring in a portal DE, in particular Sahir Wes who this post is about.

My point is players will develop. Lightfoot gained 20 pounds his first year on campus so my project is thing will stay the same or at least 50% of the same, meaning he will gain 10 - 20 pounds this offseason.

Finally I do not expect Lightfoot to be a run stopper, I expect there being other guys on the roster with the size and strength (pause) to stop the run.

Weight gain doesn’t work like you think it works.

20 lbs, every off season, is asking alot. Especially for a hard gainer. I think lightfoot may end up being a situational player for us. At 230, he'll just get run at most plays

Im interested to see how scroggins develops. Hes listed at 245 right now, and seeing how he was getting playing time in the A&M game, they must think he has a bright future. He fits the kind of Edge Heatherman likes the use

He will be in the mix next year no doubt. The questions to me are Pickett & McConathey. We need 1/2 to step up otherwise we gotta hope one of these incoming freshmen are truly ready, but thats why we all figure portal d end is a priority. You cant lose Bain + Mesi and just hope for youngsters to step in, need a vet in that room. But I like Scroggins in general, gives me that Trent Harris just shows up does his job quietly vibe.

I said 10 - 20 pounds. He is already 230 has gained 23 pounds since arriving. According to DMoney Scroggins is up to 255 - 260 now.

I don't see Lightfoot gaining another 20 pounds this offseason. These kids get an initial bump in weight with the meal plans for athletes and access to better S&C. It's similar to the freshman 15 most regular students get, just better weight. After that bump, you don't typically see those types of gains again without "supplementation" or the addition of bad weight. The body just doesn't function that way. 5-10 pounds is more realistic, and that would be dependent on how strict he is with his diet/caloric intake and workout plan.

I think we will grab more edge players than we think. Bain and Mesidor played like 90% of snaps most games. I don’t think we will get that moving forward

Yep. A lot of people dont realize how hard it is to gain quality weight.

Took me 20 years.....TWENTY YEARS to get to 205. I was 6'1 155lbs coming out of HS, did an entire year of nutrition and weight training program just to hit 165lbs. I remember eating so much I was sick of eating.

So after I realized I wasn't going to be able to play ball anymore....I did the cheat thing...thank ****. I'd still probably be 168lbs of **** weight.

I think this is absolutely correct, but my guy @JHallCanes can help anyone gain 20 pounds in an off season, and really, in about 6-8 weeks.

All joking aside, I would be surprised if many college athletes weren’t using human growth hormone. It is virtually undetectable and all these guys can afford it. Rumor/fact is that more than half of NBA players use HGH, which means even more than that use it in the NFL.
HGH doesn’t add weight like anabolic steroids, because it adds more lean muscle than bulk, but it is perfect for adding really good weight.

If I had a dollar for every time someone posted:

“Add 20-30 pounds”

When they have no clue what that actually means or entails

I’d have enough money to buy us a QB next year

Good weight gain is so hard to do that most of us have to add some bad weight along with the good, and then strip away the bad. But doing that naturally beyond 5 pounds per year? Almost impossible except for the genetic freaks.

Scroggins is not 255-260, idc what D Money says 😂😂. he’s like 240 max. It took Lightfoot and Pickett 2 offseasons to get to 230. Don’t see a reason for Cole or Lowe, to get 265+. To top it all off nobody u mention has much experience.
