DE possible addition?

I agree i feel like he'll want to play a feature role and improve his NFL stock and we don't have that role for him with the guys we have this year

Right
This isn’t some bonafide stud we are talking about here. He was a UDFA and average to slightly above average college player that was a good run defender and below average pass rusher. He isn’t some sure fire kid that is undoubtedly better than Blount that should demand tick over him. If he wants to come and ride pine/be in rotation, compete and still play plenty snaps then sure. But again, we know that isn’t happening.

He joined the lawsuit. I'd imagine that is something of an indication about what he might want to do.

If he comes to UM, if UM makes a CFP run, if he logs some TFLs and sacks, he likely gets drafted instead of being a UDFA.
I just don’t think he’d play a lot here. However, in case we have injuries and the hope we blow out teams early, it could make a slight difference I suppose.

My point was if I was in his shoes, I’d pick a school with more security when it comes to playing time

Those are different situations. One has been on the roster for two years albeit injured and other stuff but still in the building working. 1 is currently in nfl camp and would show up 1 week before a season to take snaps away.

I understand it’s business and at this point minor league sports with contracts so teams are always looking to improve rosters but I wouldn’t think it would sit well with the others.

Either way I doubt this kid comes back to college even with a massive Nil check.

They are not different situations.

Look, for years, all these jealous fans from other schools have been predicting that there would be "locker room problems" if you paid one single high school recruit one dollar more than you are paying the guys already on the roster. And while I tried to say that this is common in the NFL, all the other naysayers were acting like there would be players fighting players.

And yet...that doesn't happen at Miami.

These kids want to win. If that means taking one player with 4 years of experience to replace a guy with 2 years of experience, then who gives a **** whether it would "sit well with the others".

Mario is an adult and treats these kids like adults. And expects them to act like adults. Which is why someone like Cam Vaughn is no longer here.

There’s 60 + snaps a game . Then there’s injuries. It also allows you to use Blount inside situationally more.

I don’t get the “ starting “nonsense . It’s not about starting, it’s about snaps. There’ll be plenty of snaps for the guys mentioned. Last season we depended way too much on our starting de’s and there was plenty of time both their tongues were dragging in fourth quarters. Which finally caught up to 3 by years end with his health. Most years you can’t walk that razors edge. You can always use a big strong , grown man in the trenches. I’d feel alot better about edge with Pyburn. So would Mario which is why he’s reached out.
In my head, I was putting Pyburn up against a healthy Scroggins and Lafayette for those additional snaps. I completely get why Mario would want a kid like this. I’m all in board for him

I’m just putting on his shoes and thinking about how much value he really wants to get out of this extra year. Maybe he’s looking for a practice squad spot next year, and a year of coaching under Taylor can help secure that, even with a small role

@Cribby already hit on it

It’s not about starting it’s about filling a need we don’t have. We have the twitchy edge rushers in waves. We don’t have a grown man run stopping DE to handle the dirty work
Blount and Davis. But Davis looks like he is a DT/pure 5Tech. Blount needs to take a massive leap in pass rush capability+success from the end position.

Yes SDE has been the need the entire time and especially with Lowe out of the picture.

However is Pyburn really going to come here to be a rotational DE? Cause there is literally zero chance Wilson, Lightfoot, and Blount don't play significant roles at DE this yr? Idk about that. Maybe if after his recent NFL camp experience he realizes he's a pure long shot to actually make the league anyways and just wants to go somewhere he can Win, improve a lot, and isn't so much worried as "starting"... Obviously we could use him, but like would he choose us over a team he'd likely be DE1 at? Idk

A DE who actually never made the NFL past some workout and is closer to a 80-90th guy on the roster currently or something that gained another yr and is an obvious pure depth guy is more likely.

But like other guys that would fit like Pyrburn are Vincent Anthony Jr who was an Edge at Duke was undrafted and is signed to Chiefs. Don't think he ever redshirted and played 4 yrs. Logan Fano pretty sure went undrafted.

If he comes in I wouldn’t be concerned with anything I’d be happy

You do you though
I’m all in board for taking this guy. I’m never going to say no to extra depth. It’ll certainly push Lafayette and Scroggins to take that next step

My expectations for this kid aren’t as high as everyone else’s, and I can understand why he’d pick another school where he has more pt security

I think he's a take but I have to believe he'd want to go somewhere where he'll have a chance to start or be in heavy rotation.

Nailed it. We've got posters SCREAMING about "starting" and in reality, who gives a ****? Even if Pyburn was in a rotation of 4 DEs, he'd probably log more snaps at UM than he would spending a season on an NFL practice squad.

But like other
Yeah that’s why I said “it doesnt matter”

We keep analyzing a question that’s hypothetical

Does he want to come here and be an edge guy? If he does then cool. It allows a young beast like Blount to stay versatile and not be worn down over a 15-16 game stretch and Davis to keep being disruptive on the inside

It’s a good problem to have. Grown man strength on the line is always good

I don't think it'd be a question about us. Especially with Lowe out of the picture - i don't think it'd really affect other guys on this roster except for Scroggins tbh. Like it'd be different if Lowe were still here. But with that being a late exit and us having unproven guys behind them really it would work out fine for us.

But it's more of a Pyburn question - would HE want to come here versus somewhere he thinks hed be playing way more. Said this in another response but if he thinks he has limited NFL potential anyways then he may just want to go somewhere he can win, improve, and still play a good amount....

Yeah I’m actually not disagreeing with you in any way hence my dismissive tone. No offense meant. I don’t have expectations as much as I think if he was willing he can help some of these other guys even better. He could play a role that helps

To your point (and others) does he want that? I have no clue how legit this really is.
Seems unlikely but same time too much baffling stuff has happened last few years for me to say no way

If he comes, he comes, and if he doesn't come, then he doesn't come.

Last season, Marquise Lightfoot only logged 292 defensive snaps. Armondo played 401 defensive snaps, with only 111 of those being on the edge ( injuries between Blay and Moten). Scroggins only had 76

Wilson, Lightfoot, and Blount are going to be very hard to keep off the field, just like Bain and Mesidor. Those three are going to want to put themselves in a position to be a first-round pick, particularly Wilson

Again, if that is the snap level Payburn is looking for in his 5th year, then please hop on board. I'd love to have him as a depth piece. I'm just skeptical here

If he’s okay with being a rotational dude, I’m all for it. Seems to have good work ethic, supposedly has gator hate, Mario recruited him hard previously, so he must culturally align in some regard, and we have a spot vacated from Lowe leaving.. I think it makes sense.

This is a competitive roster… Mario isn’t promising starting roles. All these dude compete, and earn their positions. That won’t change for this dude.

Take him.. It works out, great! It doesn’t he rides the bench, and is our practice squad/jic guy now. Low risk in my opinion.

Excuse my absolute ignorance because I cannot keep up. But any chance these guys play and are later ruled ineligible? Again I have no idea. Just wondering
