DE/DT Daniel Carson update

From our backyard.

Top national DTs are also found around the country. There aren't that many that have come from our backyard.

That was quite obviously the point of the post.

The DT recruiting is a mess this cycle. It seems that Kuligowski is far better at developing than recruiting.

There are 3 top-rated DL in the St. Louis area. Trout committed to USC without coming on his visit and who knows if Thompson will come down.

And that's from his old stomping ground.

We can't rely on the local area producing game-breaking DTs. How many of those has the Miami area had? Lester Williams, Vince Wilfork, William Joseph, and ?

Kuligowski needs to get top-level national DTs. If he doesn't, than our DL won't be at a championship level.

It is what it is. And what it is is a huge disappointment at this point.

And out of those 1st rounders he's had, how many were DTs? Probably the bulk have been DEs.
Nesta Silvera is a top level dt , best in the country

Let’s not forget that this is merely the EARLY SIGNING PERIOD. Though it would be nice to have all of our DTs locked in, there are still over two months left in this recruiting cycle. Other quality names will emerge and many more surprises are yet to come. In the words of Aaron Rogers, “relax”.

Saw this guy's highlight tape, looks decent, would have liked to see more of him from the DT spot, as it's mostly of him standing up in a scheme that promotes him setting the edge, nto letting anything develop outside the tackle box... not his fault, that's where his team needed him.

I came away more impressed with his highlights on the basketball court. There i saw his movement for a big guy, and gave me a glimpse of RJ McIntosh, with some refinement by Coach Kool.

All in all, with the body type/movement abilities, so I can see why Coach Kool has him on the radar.
Kool likes a basketball background

fwiw David Lake CB'd Carson to OU. no idea why, but he did it.

He also thinks we have zero chance at Briggs or Surtain.

So does everybody that isn't a miami guy

I guess we're doomed.

Haha not saying I agree with them. But saying we don't have a chance with Surtain/Briggs really isn't the stupidest thing in the world.

Saying we're doomed is just a joke. I've been through this for so many years...we've had so many years where it was a lot worse than this. We're going to lose some real elite players i suspect--we can't get them all, but like Jimmy Johnson used to say, after losing some elite kids to other schools--"I'd rather focus on the kids we got, not the ones who got away." We still competed for NC's just with the kids we got.

I guess one of the worse things, though, especially for the coaches, is where you've been real close to a kid for several years, spent a lot of time with them and on them, did extra stuff like develop an academic plan for them, and have them walk away at the end.

There's a post on WEZ about how Banda did so much to lay out an academic plan for Jobe and then have him walk away. That must be really disheartening for a coach and it ****es me off. There's not much we can do about it if the NCAA can't or won't look into the extra compensation that might be paid for these kids.
