People here expecting a true freshman DT to be a difference maker must not watch cfb very closely. I’d argue that it is the toughest position from a physical perspective to make an impact as a true freshman. For every ed Oliver there are 100s of guys thar don’t make a splash as true freshmen

Silvera will be asked to contribute not be the starter. We have big hoss Ryan fines and Jon Ford to do the heavy lifting at the 1 tech.

Worked out for 5* Ed Oliver. People keep saying Nesta should be a 5* let him prove it.

If a five star goes to Houston he'll probably start , its Houston. Natty caliber teams dont rely on true fr to be a major contributor. That's what we're trying to be.

There is no rule that says national caliber teams can't rely on true freshman. This is plain retarded.

Didn't Bama take a true freshman Jalen Hurts to the championship?

Jesus dude, we're talking dt. This whole thread is talking talking about relying on true Fr playing at a grown man position. And even if we were talking qb, they won in spite of him.

But let's get back to talking dt.

Wasn't Wilkins the best DT @Clemson his freshman year?

Even with JUCOs I wouldn't expect more than a contributor their first year. Nick Farley didn't take off until his second year at Auburn.

I don't count on a true fr dt, you'd be a fool to do that. If we were recruiting the position correctly we wouldn't be talking a true fr or juco. One true Fr dt doesn't fix the issue

This, in fact each of the last 4 years there were multiple teams that had freshman olineman starting in playoff games including Washington, Bama, clemson last year and uga this year. **** miami was one game away too from the playoff with a freshman oline starter

Jesus are you dense too? We're talking freaking Dt, i've been saying this in multiple threads , but I'll make sure I add " dt" in every post . Even though it's in two " dt's" threads.

Coaches always say DT is the one position where they never want true Fr playing at, majority of them aren't physically ready . One here and there rotating is ok, y'all counting 3-4 coming in this year as actual depth.

That's fine , but you don't win big that way.

What's funny is the only people that don't get this is some trolls and you.

These dummies don't get this simple concept. I guess ignorance is bliss, you can't fix stupid.

I'm not saying its fine to count on a true freshman. I'm just saying it isn't the end of the world

Exactly, no one isn’t saying we are relying him to start but to be a #4 dt next year at least...

Lmao dude really brought up fines hahaha

I just don't understand, regardless of what you sign, and YES I UNDERSTAND this staff gives less "token" visits than past staff's...BUT with the DT need this year...Here is UM's visits: Goldwire, Carson, Silvera, and maybe Thompson (Briggs was there a couple times unofficially I believe). How do we justify that strategy?

Whatever...Show faith in Kul and hope we land Carson and possibly another. Off to good start for '19 at the position.

Maybe Trevonte Valentine and Keef Bryant are available.

Don’t understand why Rick is having problems getting DTs to commit but let’s see what happens with the JUCO kids.

Dexter Lawrence
Rashan Gary
Shariff Floyd
Timmy Jernigan

and many more all say different. You have to recruit studs though, not just big boys! Silvera size and speed are very underated, he is able to step in and contribute.

Carson said he isn't signing until February, so the staff will have plenty of time to focus on him (and DTs like Thompson, I hope) after the dead period ends.

Still has the in home available

And if we get Goldwire and Carson to pair with Nesta in this class, .

That's what's starting with this...Goldwire signed with Louisville.

Not yet. Word is that he is going to, though. And also that it maybe had more to do with us backing off the idea that he was 100% over his knee injury.

I'm not saying we did or didn't back off...I'm just saying we need DT.

Okay if we don't get Goldwire maybe we will be getting someone else. Idk. All I do know is, I'm not ******* worried about the DL one bit, because we have the best DL coach in the nation. Until he gives me something to worry about, I have trust in Kul.
