People give Bain a hard time about the UL game for disappearing and a lot of that was scheming by UL. Well if people didn’t like that game I have news for ya with Wilson . He disappears a lot. I’ve watched a few Missouri games and I forgot he was even there for large stretches . Bain & Mesidor disrupted teams entire game plans. Wilson isn’t that guy. As you said he’ll likely have more sacks than them but there’ll be a lot of dead space in between sacks.
He’s going to have a lot more chances to go get the qb with this offense we’ll be rocking. Teams will be putting the run game up earlier in games. I don’t think he’s close to 3 or 4 as a complete player but he’ll have better stats.
Wilson will get over 10 IMO but he won’t be even remotely close in run support. Those LBs are going to have to earn their money because Bain fixed so much outside.

I saw the same thing on tape. Mesidor and Bain excelled against run and pass, putting up many more tackles and impacting the overall game, not just the pass game. Wilson, while talented, did not have the 100mph effort every snap like Mesidor/Bain, didn't have the same production in the run game, and vanished for long periods of time in games. He also rotated snaps, which i found very odd.
I’ll never speak ill of Bain. Especially in today’s game it’s hard to have a DE be a true impact on all three downs. I’m a blind homer but he’s the best draft eligible player imo this year.
Everyone keeps saying that our defensive line is going to be elite while ignoring the amount of production Bain and Messidor had.
I expect the defense to be a little worse (but still **** good) and the offense to take a step forward. The defense will probably give up more points just based on the fact that the offense should be able to score faster, so the opponents will have more opportunities, and need to open it up earlier. As for Wilson, I think he will be in the Charles Haley mold vs Bain's impersonation of Reggie White.
Feel you, hoping Hayden Lowe is the truth like we think and Lightfoot adds weight would make me feel a bit better. Slight bit concerned about Wilson setting the edge. On the tape it looks like he would gamble a bit on run downs and get pushed out the way. I trust JT to get him right though.
Wilson needs to improve in the run game. You are 1000% correct. that being said, I have heard he is committing to listening to JT.
I don't think Lightfoot will ever get to the weight he needs to be an every down edge player. He's a leaner guy with a narrow lower body. He is who he is at this point, a pass rusher who can play a few run downs but is more sub-package with rushes and drops. He can be handled in the run game by tight ends, so while he produces splash plays and can be an exciting chess piece to move around, he shouldn't be asked or expected to be a 3-down edge setting DE/OLB. Maximize his potential by keeping him fresh to do what he does best. I am intrigued by Lowe, although it was only a few camp clips from last year.
