DE Damon Wilson II commits to Miami

All things being equal, including Damon staying healthy all year, and the returning and improving DT's we have, I think he may replace Mesidor's production. We won't replace exactly what Bain did, but I think the entire D will be improved and better at tackling in 26'.

We may not be able to improve upon or match what Bain did at any given moment but if the DL is deeper and can rotate more without much drop off then I think over the course of an entire game we may be better. I watched Bain and Mesidor completely gassed and almost neutralized in multiple games because they didn't want to come out and the drop off behind them was big. FSU, SMU, and Ole Miss come to mind.

Great post and totally agree!

The question is how to replace Bain's production in the aggregate, remember to "carry the one".

Agreed. I do think that this year's D will be smarter and more sound overall with it being Heatherman's 2nd season. If everyone sees the breakdowns and bad tackling, you know he's not happy or satisfied.

I feel like the personality of the D this year ws just blunt force trauma; I see next year's D's personality being the very embodiment of suffocation. I expect our D to be at minimum, top 10 and our O (with Mensah) top 20. That combo will take us far into the playoffs.

Lowe will not be jr season Bain. But he could be what Bain was when healthy as a sophomore. That photo posted of him shows that even as a TF he is massive. Same thick and powerful lower body as Bain (pause) I’m expecting his numbers to be like 6’4’’ 275 with some elite traits by August. If he puts in the work and has the motor he’s going to be a huge problem for opposing defenses. With Wilson playing that Mesidor role. Add in Blount Scott and Moten with Lightfoot playing a similar role as he did this year with more expanded responsibility and we are really cookin. DL will be elite again and the middle of the line should be disgusting with Moten Scott and Blount

When you watch Wilson you just see pure talent. But when you really watch and see what this staff teaches, and then going against a Miami OL in practice. This dude is about to hit a whole next level, he has not reached his full potential when you watch his film. It’s up to him to use what they teach and add it to his ****nal on the field. If he does, watch out.

He kind of reminds me of Rousseau.

@skyman care to elaborate 👀
The we will see comment makes it seem like questioning if this is a massive pickup, I think it is, kid has already been productive before he is in our system with our coaches. I dont think he has to be Bain to recognize that.. (Bain bar is incredibly high as he is great at stopping run and rushing passer) This is big time for us overall.

Ok. Fair enough. In my defense, I said “We will see, it is a big pickup”. I assumed people would know I was responding to his statement “it’s literally replacing top 10 DE with another”. That’s where I clarified he’s not Rueben Bain. (His statement seemed to allude that they are interchangeable… they are not)

Slow day. Just curious. He was a huge need for us!
