Is it really as bad as we all believe?

Looks like the numbers are there, with the exception of the nickel position, this group is just highly inexperienced. Coach Chevis Jackson has a history of having CB's playing on a very high level as young players.

Cornerback
  1. Daryl Porter RSR 5-10 190
  2. Jadais Richard JR 6-1 195
  3. D'Yoni Hill JR 6-0 180
  4. Robert Stafford RFR 5-11 190
  5. OJ Frederique FR 6-0 180
  6. Ryan Mack FR 5-11 170
Nickel
  1. Damari Brown SO 6-2 195
Safety
  1. Mishael Powell RSR 6-1 210
  2. Isaiah Taylor RJR 5-11 200
  3. Jaden Harris RSO 6-0 195
  4. Markeith Williams RSO 6-2 175
  5. Zaquan Patterson FR 6-0 195 (Top 100 recruit and early enrollee)
  6. Dylan Day FR 6-2 200 (Early enrollee, is also working at Nickel)
  7. Isaiah Thomas FR 6-2 200 (should redshirt as he recovers from a high school injury)

Wildcard
  1. Myles Mooyoung RJR 5-11 195 (hardworking walk-on who has made players in practice at CB, who knows if he can actually contribute in a meaningful game)

*in order by class not depth*

On another note with only one SR corner and one SR safety, Miami could return a very experienced group of DB's for 2025 and with the possible elite DB class coming in, this could be the last season having to worry about this position.

It's not bad... It's unproven and the starters aren't the most optimal profile you want.

Now obviously this room finally appears to have high levels of competency after a full decade of BS walking around at the coaching spot, but right now, its fair to put a question mark behind the group.

Per Lance Guidry, the Nickel position has the following players taking situational snaps there.

1. Damari Brown(Starter)
2. Mishael Powell(Starter at FS but will play some Nickel depending on opponent.
3. Daryl Porter Jr(Starter at CB but will play Nickel depending on opponent.
4. Jadais Richard(May start at CB opposite Daryl Porter. May play some Nickel

At CB we have
1. Daryl Porter.
2. Jadais Richard
3. Dyoni Hill
4. Robert Stafford
5. O.J. Frederique(True Freshman)
6. Ryan Mack(True Freshman)

At Safety
1. Mishael Powell
2. Jaden Harris
3. Markeith Williams
4. Zaquan Patterson(True Freshman)
5. Isaiah Taylor(PWO)
6. Dylan Day(True Freshman)
7. Isaiah Thomas(Medical Redshirt)

How many of these guys do you think will get drafted within the first 4 rounds?

The answer to that question is the answer to your question.

Guidry himself said we don't have the depth. He said his defense is supposed to have Nickle players that are specifically just for Nickle and that's something we don't have. That's why their moving around alot of players.

If they stay healthy we will be ok but man did they need to get another corner and another safety via the portal. The secondary will be the weakness of this entire team.

This. Miami fans haven’t seen nfl talent in so long they don’t even know what it looks like.

Brown is the only who might be an nfl player.

Powell we will see this year. I don’t know enough about him.

That’s a major problem.

I was going to say we had depth issues going into the season in the secondary in 2016 but man we had some talent. Jenkins, Corn Elder, Jaquan Johnson, Colbert, Redwine, Mike Jackson, Carter. All those guys played or are currently in the NFL. Young was another guy too but his career was cut short unfortunately.

From the scrimmage interview with Mario

"On the secondary: In terms of talent, I think we have more talent than has been here in recent years. That's progress. That's part of the reason that we're here. We’ve got to keep doing that more and more and more at every level.

Everyone in the building is incredibly impressed with our secondary. Sometimes we mistake having a lot of young guys [as having] guys that are incapable of being ready. We are 1000% confident in our guys. Not because we fluff them up or pretend that it's right. You’ve got some flat-out players and they're smart and they're tough and they can tackle and they can cover. There’s absolutely zero limitations to what we've been doing on defense. In fact, we expect to see the competition heat up a lot more in the coming week."

From a dude that doesn't usually blow smoke, he's confident as **** in this secondary so we'll see. Can anyone remember him hyping a position group that ended up being ***? (Honest question)

MC is hyping up his entire team as he knows he's got the horses to win the ACC. This is his year, and he should win as it's a weak schedule and he's riding with the best QB in the ACC, arguably the top OL and WR group as well. The RB group is top 3 and if Arroyo stays healthy and Williams improves marginally, the TE group is probably top 5 in the conference. No excuses for Cristobal.

Memnon, what's your take on OJ Frederique,so far from people who saw the scrimmage and practices he seems to be the steal of the class. Are you surprised, did you see the potential or is it still too early and fans may be over reacting.
