Dawson is ultimately Cheeks.

I think Dawson has been protecting Beck a bit. Too conservative at times. It'll be interesting if we have a more aggressive passing game next year with Mensah.
I think Shannon has a good feel for what his QBs can and can’t do. He sides with protecting them because he rightly doesn’t want turnovers.

He can only do so much to protect a QB. You see it the way he calls a game with Emory at QB, Cam, Beck and TVD.

I am excited to see Dawson with Mensah.

I do question a lot of **** Dawson does but overall, he’s done a good job and I want to see him back for the continuity and how he would work with Mensah.

He saved Beck from himself as much as he could due to the arm and was limited to working within a 5-30 yard box.

That’s hard to do.

Dawson is just so weird, at times he looks like an elite play caller and then other times it’s just straight up terrible plays. I thought after the SMU game we figured things out but there were moments throughout the playoffs where he actively was hindering the team. I don’t think we need a change I’m just hoping he evolves more going forward.
Did you see the look gave Beck after the 2nd and 3rd 3 and outs in the first half? It was like “What the **** are you calling”! Another A/B gap?

Going by this, it looks like Ohio State, Indiana, Texas Tech, Oregon, Texas A&M, Alabama, Oklahoma all need to improve on offense as well.
None of those teams are our measuring stick. We are our own barometer now. Relentless for 4 quarters. That is the only way.

I’m with you.

The amount of points we left on the field this year, especially in the playoffs…it’s astonishing

I’ve been somewhat of a Dawson supporter, simply because I think he’s gotten too much **** at times

But I really don’t see how you bring him back

I think it became very glaring in the playoffs just how lacking we are at the skill spots but that only goes so far

He was a liability when the games mattered most
Zero points in 2 first halves of the playoffs - where it matters the most.

His job is to score points and that is abysmal, no matter what mental gymnastics people want to do.

That puts the team in bad positions in the second half, requiring heroics from a QB not built for that. It’s common ******* sense.

This right here is the main issue. We got “enough” in 10 out of 12 games. Averaged 8 points per first half in the first 3 playoff games. And had a goose egg for the second time on the biggest stage.

It’s hard to believe that won’t continue to be an inconsistent next season. Naturally our offense should be improved with Mensah at the helm but there were glaring issues/inconsistency with first half play calling all season long in the first halves of games and it finally bit us in the *** when it mattered most. Two goose eggs in 4 first halves can’t happen. You can’t take an entire half to adjust. Save the punt block-it was the biggest contributor to our loss.
I don’t blame it all on Dawson either. Earlier in the season we were having massive lulls on offense and Beck was missing some big plays. Execution was rough at times, pre snap penalties were killing us etc

I’m not going to be mad if we bring him back. It could be a lot worse but that’s a weak reason. I’m sky high on Mensah so a lot of coaches could be successful here

Agreed. It was pretty amazing watching the offense come up huge three games in a row

Eventually the odds are gonna catch up with you when you keep leaving points on the field. Sadly it caught up with us at the worst time

Yeah, the entire playoff on offense was like an extended Georgia Tech '24 game from Dawson. When we scrimmaged across midfield on 7 drives, only scored 17 points, and got 0 points on 4 drives

I think he's going to be our OC next year. We are Mensah or bust at QB, and any uncertainty at OC makes it more likely he goes back to Duke (still extremely unlikely) IMO.

The comparison that keeps coming to my mind with Dawson after the playoffs is the Packers bringing back LaFluer. Are any Packer fans going to be surprised if Ben Johnson shoves LaFluer in a locker again next year? Doubt it. We should hope it doesn't happen, but I wouldn't be surprised at all, if after a regular season of generally beating the brakes off everyone on offense we go out earlier than we should in the post-season because we can't score points when we should on offense.

Ive been saying it since the first day we hired Dawson and I watched his games at Houston that his offense is just a basic offense that puts players in positions to create plays but if we don't get elite WRs were going to struggle against sophisticated defenses. Dawson is the equivalent to Randy Shannon as DC, just a basic scheme that requires elite talent to make it work

He left points on the table in 3 of our 4 playoff games. So if you really think you can win with this guy you either need the number one defense in the nation or the number 1 QB in the draft.

Seems like thin margins.

Whose offense works without elite talent?

Did you miss the Ole Miss game?

Have to disagree. By not setting the tone and wearing them out in the first half we let them get the lead and run the ball. If we were close in the first half, Mendoza has to throw and we were presuring him. If we got into halftime game down by even three, it’s a completely different ball game.

It’s not all Dawson, the RB coach putting in Brown in the 2nd/3series was pure idiocy. This was a small undersized line that we needed to strain. It occurred later but by then they could run the ball and protect Mendoza.
Brother the tone WAS set, they were kicking our ***. What game did yall watch. It flipped in the 2H

I did not. We had 4 drives in + territory against Ole Miss that we got 0 total points on.

So instead of settling for 31 points, you think we should have put up a nice 50+ spot on Ole Miss in a semi-final game.
