Yea I just see it differently, i don’t think guys just magically become all conference level players if they weren’t already good lol

And by this logic dawson inherited a day3 level quarterback, with mid wrs that no nfl teams wanted and were easily replaceable(according to this board lol), he turned that into the #1 offense in the country and our best offense ever

I thought Dawson did well this last season considering all the talent we lost. We were limited offensively compared to the year we had Cam, and still almost won a National Championship.

This year, I feel we might have the most loaded offense we've had in years from a positional point of view, it's an embarrassment of riches.

Chicken or the egg situation.. did the players change or did the coaching change and the players followed. imo the coaches felt the heat and changed which allowed the players to cut loose and enjoy themselves. The 'change' happened during the first half of the Syracuse game and I like to think it was franny brown's dumb *** antics on the side line that changed the coaching mentality. The result was what we should have been seeing all season long. Hopefully they see that approach almost got us number 6 and should be the approach from here on out. The coaching mentality is my biggest question going into next year.. will it continue or do we go back to being predictable?

Interesting discussion here. Regardless of whether or not the players or coaches changed first is not as important as the fact that it did happen. Once we started rolling to end the regular season post SMU and into the playoffs you could see Mario getting more comfortable as if he was gaining confidence in his abilities as a head coach. We literally saw him grow and come into his own as a head coach during that playoff run. As far as going back to being like he was before my answer is no. No way! Once you grow and change you don't go back. As far as being predictable, every head coach and coordinator will have issues during certain series from time to time no matter how good they are. We will be no different.

You actually missed the osu, miss, and second half of Indiana games to prove your point! He bounced back against osu and adjusted in the second half against indiana....
 
Dawson gets points for effectively tailoring the offense around Beck’s inability to throw accurately downfield. It was clear his arm wasn’t as strong after the surgery and struggled on deep passes that weren’t specifically drawn up to make them wide open. We were a screen and check down passing offense last year and it killed our explosive play rate but it was still generally good enough to win against even the best teams we faced provided we didn’t turn the ball over too much.

He still falls below that top tier of coordinators because we had just way too many long stretches where our offense would do nothing. You can’t take three quarters to figure out that Mark Fletcher is getting 8 yards per carry against Texas A&M and maybe we should force feed him the ball a little more. You can’t take multiple weeks to find a counter to the bear front.
