DAWGS HQ Staff writer clears the air on Carson Beck's exit from UGA

The fact that Beck came off surgery, had no spring or summer with a new team and to be on the doorstep of winning it all says alot about him. They painted this flashy bragging guy who didnt care about football and always on social media. I wasnt around in summer much but i kept seeing that on basically all football podcasts and shows. UGA made that narrative, revision is not gonna change it now. And they are hate watching one more time so he wont win.

Bobo & Smart have deep ties to Gunner Stockton & saw him as a gutty throwback to when they played ball. He was a real Dawg the team & fans would rally around. Beck was always an outsider - described by a friend whose son was a teammate as “different” - and an easy target when things went wrong. Most Dawg fans now are quietly biting their lip as Beck flourishes & pensively hoping he stumbles.
Problem for Kirby & Dawgs is you can’t win at the highest level these days with a Stockton type QB. Accuracy is pivotal. Stockton can run around & extend plays, but he lacks high level athleticism to avoid getting blown up with vicious hits. Also too many designed runs, especially in 1st quarter vs Ole Miss. Too tough for his own good & worry about possibly being a future CTE candidate.

This writer is just doing damage control for UGA.

Imagine TVD took a team to the natty the year after he transferred and the canes lost in the QF because they were a QB away. This message board would be in SHAMBLES.

I don’t believe for a second Beck was some locker room cancer at UGA to the level they try to portray it.

Actually don't feel like quarterback was Georgia's problem this year -- Stockton's hellbent (and potentially career-shortening as you mentioned) playing style aside.

His numbers were very good for a first-year starter and he played his *** off in the Sugar Bowl. It took a Superman QB in an Ole Miss uniform to beat the Dawgs.

But Georgia had serious issues on the OL. And, of course, Bobo is a mediocre (at best) OC working under someone — like most defensive coaches — who views offense as a necessary evil that can get you beat more than help you win.

Problem is UGA's defensive roster wasn't close to good as it was in 2021 and '22. They didn't have enough talent on D to simply shut people down with three-and-outs and big stops in the red zone when needed.

And of course there are those seemingly endless off-the-field transgressions — the ones reported and those Kirby Smart and his lackeys covered up — that are a clear indicator of a program infested with reckless behavior and leadership predisposed to look the other way. Y'know, since Sports Illustrated is basically dead, maybe ESPN should call for the program to be shut down ... 🤔

I'll say this about Smart. He's a helluva coach, one of the greatest of this generation, but I honestly believe he doesn't give a **** about his players beyond what they can do on the football field. There's literally no other explanation to his inaction in dealing with repeated serious problems

I couldn't care less what UGA and their fans think of Carson, he's a Cane now!

Stockton had 13 carries for 20 yds vs. Ole Miss - bunch of designed runs in 1st QT. Only other player in double digits was Nate Frazier with 15 for 86. Point is don’t want that much of offense in Stockton’s hands. Tough kid, but not an elusive runner & hits add up.

It’s probably revisionist history and most likely wasn’t all clean and mature like the post makes it seem, but the point of the article is right.
Beck needed to move on from UGA, and UGA was fine with him leaving.

I live in Atlanta and Beck was crucified by UGa fans and sports radio here last year. Hasn’t stopped this year. That fan base hates the guy and wants him to fail, bad. And they will tell you as much. There is no class or grace from them when it comes to Beck.
Every UGA fan I come across has the same attitude.
