The point you clearly missed is not Shannon's sidelines, or Cokers, or anyone else's. We are talking about Butch Davis. And his game management and sidelines were a circus. You want to minimize that by arguing Shannons were worse? Brilliant logic.

I stood on the sidelines from 95-2000....while your nothing *** was watching on TV.....Don't need History lessons....
 
Lol at Butchs sidelines ANYWHERE worse than Shannons....Only someone who didn't see both upclose would say that....Bottomline....While Butch had his limitations...his sidelines were chock full of future AAs...All Pros...and 5 future NFL HOFers....How's things since??....How's things been since Butchs kids left in 2004??....I think we all know the answer...Funny how our Irrelevance started about the same time....What a coincidence!!
 
Butchs 2000 Team would drop kick ANY team that Mork EVER coached....****...his 98 and 99 team would Lay a Smackdown on the Garbage that I've seen this yr....

Hindsight says butch should've never left here in 2000.but he did and is not coming back so we need to focus on someone else as being our future hc.as for me I don't care who the coach is as long as we get back to dominating again knocking bama off that perch.

I'm going to focus on the ****show that is UM football since Butch.

UM needs to ask a few questions.

1. Who is available within our budget - that can rebuild our program?

2. Who is a proven, experienced program builder that understands Miami football?

3. Who has proven they can build a program right to the top - while starting out under sanctions, no tv, no bowl game, and 31 scholarship losses?

4. Who will also actually HIRE Offensive and Defensive Coordinators?

5. Who was already hired by UM to clean up a broken program, and take it right to the top?

6. Who burns to coach UM to the very top, and can get there quickly?

7. Who was the prime recruiter for Jimmy Johnson,

8. who also evaluated and recruited the players Johnson handed over to Erickson,

9. who won two more National Championships,

10. Then, who recruited his own players under terrific sanctions just short of the Death Penalty,

11. Built a team that had one loss in his last year at UM, and should have played for the National Championship,

12. and handed Clappy a National Championship team, that also should have won the second National Championship?

Answer is butch but I hate to you tell he Is not the only coach in the world that can do those things there are others just have find them.fan base is also going to have to be patient with a new hc so he can implement his system.a lot of growing pains if he has to regularly rely on true/reshirt freshmen.
 
We should just hire Butch so the BBB crew can finally STFU.

There are legit reasons for complaint with gameday coaching and such, but you have to look at the whole picture. When you do that you have to take into account how the huge NCAA scholarship penalties hurt the middle of his time here. But after the worst of it (that 5-6 season) his true ability to evaluate and recruit became evident. As those teams matured, they went 9-3, 9-4, & 11-1. The part many avoid mentioning is that the team he built was handed to a mediocre coach who was still able to go 12-0, 12-1, & 11-2 with Butch's guys. Don't forget that that 11-1 team was cheated out of an opportunity to play for a title by the BCS scum, and the 12-1 team was blatantly cheated out of a title by ref scum. That would have been 3 consecutive national titles. To dismiss what he created by cherry-picking sanction-era examples to portray him in a negative light is ridiculously dishonest.

No one seems to look at who graduated from FIU last year - no one seems to recall the building job Butch did at NC - and even after losing a ****load of his players due to the school administrations multi-year bull**** - still won his bowl game.

And we lost 31 scholarships at UM in two years - all determined to kick in his first year at UM?

Butch is the exact same age as Saban.

You really believe Saban is burned out? Has past his expiration date?

When he took the HC job at UM, I don't think anyone else would take it - and of course UM was Butch's first HC job - and yes, like one or two first-time coaches - like Dabo - he had a bit of learning to do -

But he had to learn while losing over 30 scholarships - then when his players came into play in 2000 - he lost one game. His team won the following year with Clappy - you schittin' me? And technically, won in 2002 as well.

Some of you must be too young to learn that most people really don't change. You'll learn eventually. Physical capabilities may decrease - but your heart - your essence - that doesn't really change at all.

damm good post Archer, i agree, most folks on this board were born in the 90's, all they know is what they hear, and what Butch did here was nothing short of amazing, and he has more energy in his little finger than rick has ever had period. These kids take on the attitude of the coach, look at our guys now, soft as **** with a ho hum we'll get em next week attitude ala Rick

We have played one team this year that matched our talent, i swear most 6a coaches here in Texas could do more with the current Canes than Rick does, its serious business here. These guys find your weakness and go after it, they can also put together an O that fits their players

Wow, you can't make this crap up. Butch Davis and Mark Richt need to coaching HIGH SCHOOL programs. CMR at a Christian school and BD at a school in the hood. Maybe that can build powerhouses and play each other for championships. They both suck at the P5 level.

So what I'm getting here is Butch had talent but couldn't manage it. Isn't that the same freaking issue we have now?

So what you're saying Butch should be a defensive position coach and head recruiter. OK, I'm good with that. And I change my stance; Butch suck as a HC but is a great recruiter and position coach.......Mark suck, PERIOD.
