No P5 school wanted him because of the end of the UNC years that was more about the Administration than it was about him.

Great idea. We should also purhcase that massive billboard on US-1 that used to say Wade County on it. I am sure everyone knows the one I am talking about. We should plaster a giant picture of Lames Wife and have it say Blake James Fvcks Trannys. Paid for by the fire Richt FOundation. That would get his attention ASAP.

Great points. He was a terrible game day coach! We would call timeouts on O, then run the play in late and get a delay penalty. My friend was a ballboy on those teams and I would ask him if the sidelines were as chaotic as they looked from the stands or TV and he said yes.

After Miami Butch didn't win at Cleveland or UNC, at least not big. His success at UNC came at a price. NCAA sanctions.

More importantly, and why I doubt he was even in the realistic convo for the job here was he got UNC in trouble with the NCAA and if anyone on this board thinks the BOT ( and the President of the University) were about to get out of the Nevin Shapiro scandal and hire ANYONE who was not squeaky clean, you're not dealing in reality. Nothing is worth having the NCAA on Miami's a--, nothing. The admin would prefer to go 9-3 and be respectable and functioning as a football program than go 12-0 under a Davis only to get back in the crosshairs of the NCAA.

The NCAA missed out on what they thought was a stone cold case vs UM with Shapiro; Why risk that with Butch, especially when he isn't at the coaching level of the elite?

I've met coach Davis and like him, he's super energetic( which Richt isn't), and full of passion. He understands the UM mystique better than Richt also. I just cant get on board with Davis as the hands down better pick as HC in 2016, especially with his baggage which Miami was NEVER eve going to be ok with.
 
well i agree butch dove me nuts but he was a first time HC. Richt has been on the job for 18 years. Butch cared about everything. Defense, offense, special teams, s&c. i dont think butch will ever be an amazing game day coach but he figured out how to load up o ntalent and thats how you win in college. you think saban does what he does w/o all those top 5 classes?

at Cleveland he got them to playoffs and then carmen policy and the owner left he basically got the same treatment he got when shalala wanted alvarez.

18 of Butch's 50 wins at miami were vs Temple, Rutgers, and BC. Without those wins he's 32-20.

He had 1 season here with more than 9 wins.

Thank you! Richt is not close to being Miami. Dude took the job b/c we bent over for him. He gave two fcks about us and now all of sudden he keeps trotting out this whole alma mater bull chit. I remember him turning us down, and I also remember him rooting for a rival to beat to "his" alma mater.
 
Miami isn't moving forward as a program replacing one dinosaur with another.

Trading a '94 Buick Skylark for a '93 Toyota Tercel ain't an upgrade, folks.
 
You always get selective stats and generalizations thrown around whenever Davis is evaluated here. There are legit reasons for complaint with gameday coaching and such, but you have to look at the whole picture. When you do that you have to take into account how the huge NCAA scholarship penalties hurt the middle of his time here. But after the worst of it (that 5-6 season) his true ability to evaluate and recruit became evident. As those teams matured, they went 9-3, 9-4, & 11-1. The part many avoid mentioning is that the team he built was handed to a mediocre coach who was still able to go 12-0, 12-1, & 11-2 with Butch's guys. Don't forget that that 11-1 team was cheated out of an opportunity to play for a title by the BCS scum, and the 12-1 team was blatantly cheated out of a title by ref scum. That would have been 3 consecutive national titles. To dismiss what he created by cherry-picking sanction-era examples to portray him in a negative light is ridiculously dishonest.

No one seems to look at who graduated from FIU last year - no one seems to recall the building job Butch did at NC - and even after losing a ****load of his players due to the school administrations multi-year bull**** - still won his bowl game.

And we lost 31 scholarships at UM in two years - all determined to kick in his first year at UM?

Butch is the exact same age as Saban.

You really believe Saban is burned out? Has past his expiration date?

When he took the HC job at UM, I don't think anyone else would take it - and of course UM was Butch's first HC job - and yes, like one or two first-time coaches - like Dabo - he had a bit of learning to do -

But he had to learn while losing over 30 scholarships - then when his players came into play in 2000 - he lost one game. His team won the following year with Clappy - you schittin' me? And technically, won in 2002 as well.

Some of you must be too young to learn that most people really don't change. You'll learn eventually. Physical capabilities may decrease - but your heart - your essence - that doesn't really change at all.

100% agree and well said. Honestly, I feel like those who were entirely set on Butch and only Butch were not in the Orange Bowl watching the team during those years. Billy Corben made a great documentary and butch brought us back from the dead, but it is foolish and ignorant to think that he was a sure thing to get this straightened out.
