2027 David Folorunsho 5* DT From Chicago, IL (St. Patrick HS)

I take no pleasure in saying this, but these are the kinds of recruiting losses that show up in the fall. D-line recruiting has slipped the last few cycles, and I’m concerned about who replaces Moten and Scott.

This is who Shooter wants in the trenches:

Some perspective—

There isn’t one person on this board who foresaw this rapid rise in national stature a year ago… and after SMU & Louisville brain farts— who could’ve?

The fact that we accomplished what we did all of last year— and the incredible coverage we’re now getting— the talent we have restocked, the ones we’ve signed and more to come (including another flip or two) versus those we lost…but portal gains full in the blanks.

Sports fans— we’ve already won… between what we develop organically and our discerning eye in the portal— ( we have had few if any busts in the our limited/scaled approach via portal)

We are bidding and in play on kids we wouldn’t have had a sniff from in years past!

I want everything and everyone— not realistic. I trust that we will come out on the otherwise just fine….
We had a poor showing in the portal the first two year Mario was here. The past two years were excellent, although last year was signifcantly better than year 3.
Generally speaking we have benefited and done well in the portal… no huge mistakes, good hole fillers- and some drafted or turning out undrafted free agent signings who will likely exceed expectations….

Yeah I’m sure the effort was the same but we were desperate for anybody when Mario got here. Plus not much to sell as far as instant impact and winning games for portal guys

2022 was a bad time to be a Cane fan hopefully we never have to go through it again

Moten was ranked 558 nationally and the 80th DL in the class lol. Tyson Bacon is the only DL on this roster that was ranked lower than 80th.

Your statement that D-line recruiting has slipped the last few cycles simply is not true. Looking back at the past 3 recruiting cycles, and I am including transfers as well since that is part of the game today, we have landed the following "blue chip" high school recruits (i.e. 4 star or higher per On3 industry rankings) and transfers:

2024
  • Justin Scott 5*
  • Marquis Lightfoot 5*
  • Armando Blount 5*
  • Booker Pickett 4*
  • Artavius Jones 4*
  • Simeon Barrow 3*
  • Elijah Alston 3*
2025
  • Hayden Lowe 4*
  • Herbert Scroggins 4*
  • David Blay 4*
2026
  • Asharri Charles 4*
  • Keshawn Stancil 4*
  • Frederic Saiteus 4*
  • DeAnthony Lafayette 4*
  • Keona Davis 3*
  • Damon Wilson 4*
  • Jarquez Carter 3*
What you just posted helps prove his point more than anything. We haven’t signed a 5 star since 2024, and we went from signing three 5 stars in one cycle to zero the following two years and only signing three top 100 lineman (Lowe, Stancil and Charles) during those cycles.
We already have three 5 stars in the boat this cycle. Be quiet.

They have to coach up the players we have, that's Carter, Stancil and Saiteus. Those are the next in line inside. Artavius Jones was a miss, or he would be among those. Moten was in the same rating range as these players give or take Stancil was higher rated and the other 2 maybe lower.

Correction Moten was lower rated than all.

Last offseason, i stopped following recruiting because when we were missing on players it became toxic and to me it didnt matter because if we didnt perform it wouldn't matter in year 4, its hard to keep selling hope.

And i say this now. They have to coach up the players on the roster. They are the ones already in the program and the system currently.

Am also remind Pete kept crying all offseason about needing 330 pound DT like Darrell Jackson. Our defense was pretty ok pretty much all season with what we had.

I dont see us having any issues getting and replacing DEs.

Im trying to relax. But im so tired of the doom n gloom mofos on this board. I dont know what Mario has to prove to these mofos.. do you
Some comments in here are insane

Yeah we still got work to do when it comes to landing dominant DTs. Its probably the most cutthroat position in recruiting

Also not for nothing but it’s a position where there’s a ton of guys that never pan out

People hated the 2025 class because the ranking was unacceptable. Might end up being Mario’s best class

I don’t even sweat the rankings at this point anymore but I also don’t want to have to rely on the portal for DTs

Since Mario arrived 2022 recruiting class (technically not fully his class) is the only class that he did not land at least 1 composite 5 star. There are only 32, 5 stars per class

2023 5 stars (6.25% of all 5 stars)
Francis Mauigoa
Samson Okunlola

2924 5 stars (9.4 % of all 5 stars)
Justin Scott
Marquise Lightfoot
Armondo Blount

2025 5 stars (3% of all 5 stars)
Hayden Lowe

2026 5 stars (3% of all 5 stars)
Jackson Cantwell

2027 5 stars so far (9.4 % of all 5 stars)
Donte Wright
Nick Lennear
Israel Abrams

Honest question: how is Abrams a composite 5* while being the No. 39 overall player on the 247 composite? Like you, I thought there were only 32 5* players in a year (mirroring the 1st round of the NFL draft). Do they limit the 5*s on the 247 ranking, but not the composite?

Yall gotta take it easy man lol. Getting way too stressed about a singular player.

I don’t know what else Mario needs to show you guys for you trust that they know what they’re doing and even thiugh we won’t always get our top target, there will be a backup plan in place.
It's who you get not who you miss on. Even the team with the #1 class (which doesn't mean ****) will miss on guys. My only possible concern is spending time (a limited resource) on guys that are likely going elsewhere. That said, Mario has proven to be very adept at the recruiting game.
