Dan Le Betard Show - Miami Scoop

Cliffs Notes:

  • Tuesday night meeting with Rudy Fernandez and Jorge Barria that ran point. Rudy has taking a very active role. Meeting was to explain that the excuse Miami has no money no longer holds water. Blake worked under the impression that there was no money, that every ask was a NO.
  • He had a lot of resentment towards the admin for not fully supporting him. But he lacked the vision, guts and aggressiveness to make the ask and get it done. He was weak.
  • Miami is going to pump an additional $20-30M towards the football program.
  • Miami is doing this and making it public so HCs and ADs can hear this.
  • This makes Mario and Lane possible targets.
  • Jeff Perrington - Associate AD at Bama is the hot name.
  • Promised to hire a national firm to conduct this search but there are a lot of people angling to get Mario in independent of the search.
  • Mario is all about recruiting and Lane is all about gameday coaching and adjustments.
  • The Herbie blast took UM by surprise and the needed to change the narrative.

Funny reading all the comments on twitterland from UF FSU fans and others specifically fsu fans…saying Miami doesn’t have money and we’re broke lol

Just gonna sit back and watch…
Sure you weren't just reading CIS?

People killed Shalala but her vision is paying dividends for the university.
She did good by Uhealth but she should never had tamped down the football program by allowing us to only spend what the Athletic dept made and also she raised the Qualifying GPA. So she can kick rocks and go back to the Shiar with Frodo

It's our time, fellas.
You know what? As cynical as I've become, in spite of myself, I think you are right.

We've never been "cursed." We've been under inept leadership that didn't get the grander picture. Frenk now gets it as well as our well-heeled donors.

Until proven otherwise, I really do believe it's a new day.

And, with this support, I think there are a number of coaches that we can win a natty with. In no order of importance:
  • Mario
  • Lane
  • M Stoops
  • Schiano
  • Leach
  • Herman
  • Aranda
  • Clawson
  • Etc.
The point I've made for years on CIS is that when Miami starts winning 10 games a year, regardless of who the coach is, we will get more than our share of local elite talent and then the whole thing just snowballs from there.

I refuse to believe we'll make another bad decision on our HC. Too many candidates who can deliver here.

Adidas is paying Miami money Nike will never pay. 12 year 160 million dollar deal plus with adidas is very lucrative
Is there an article where these figures come from? I know we got a bump from the original deal back in 2015, but never saw anything official

Incredible it took the deep pocket egos to be directly hit by saying we don’t have money before they wanted change not the actual losses on the field. Can’t wait to watch the hog off inside the BOT room on who what and where we go now.

Funny that after YEARS of hearing (often by people around here) that we don't have money for athletics or especially that we don't understand how university budgets work and you CANNOT just take money from one end of a university and dump it in another that Kirk Herbstreit (God bless him) makes ONE comment on national TV and BAM....here's $30 mil! And why are people citing that the money is so easily available? Because UHealth is raking it in.

Sooooo maybe as a future point of reference whenever we discuss college athletics and university finances let's just adhere to the notion of "Where there's a will (or effective public pressure)....there's always a way".

How much of this alleged 20-30M is going towards the recruiting budget?
Most of it should go to the coaching staff, our coaching staff needs to look like playoff teams coaching staff. The HC should not be expected to kill himself and work miracles. We don't need a massive recruiting budget when we don't have to rack up as many air miles as other teams to recruit 75-80% of our classes
