DAILY DEBATE: Who is the better player, Xavier Restrepo or Roscoe Parrish?

X is criminally underrated by this fanbase. His game is totally different than roscoe but he does more. X is dependable, he just gets open and catches the football and moves the chains over and over again. That’s a WR job.

Roscoe was a better athlete but X is a better wide receiver

Being a walking or freshman X would be the first person I’d walk up to and ask , I want what you have SHOW ME everything.

Parish total all purpose yards in 3 yrs:
2,515 yrds & 16 TDs

Xavier Restrepo all purpose yards in 4 yrs:
1,881 yrds & 10 TDs

Parrish is by far the better football player. I would assume that if Parrish played in today’s era & he was targeted as much as X, he would’ve easily had a 1500 yrd 10 TD season.
I love X but I don’t even know if he woulda made those teams

This one shouldn't even be a conversation. I'm not saying x is left overs or anything. But be realistic. He has his results because he has played on a team where the QB was handcuffed(by choice) to him and he didn't have much depth besides him. Roscoe was a home run threat any time he touched the ball and played in LOADED rooms.

Maybe I'm getting old, but I don't remember those rooms being loaded. Kevin Beard was our second-best receiver in 2001-2003. X is significantly better than Beard. We weren’t that good at WR beyond Andre Johnson. In 2003, our leading receiver was Ryan Moore, who had twice as many receiving yards as Roscoe.

I also think people are overstating the impact of today's era. Restrepo was 19th nationally in receiving yards. With the same numbers, he would've been 13th in 2004. It's not a huge difference.

Roscoe is a way better returner, and that probably gives him the overall edge, but I don't think there's much evidence that he was the better receiver.

Bit of hyperbole on my part for sure. Would love to see Roscoe in this day and age of college football doing his thing

Sometimes he gets a little overlooked in the grand scheme of things because of how much talent we had during those years

This one is out of left field, but somebody asked me this on the Canes Connection call yesterday and I thought it was interesting. Who do you got?
More important to a team is X, but Roscoe was a better special teams player. Roscoe probably should have gotten more opportunities but we had such good players at the time.

X by far

Yeeeeah, u’re definitely getting old. Lol

Parrish played w:
Andre Johnson (1st Rd)
KWII (1st Rd)
Sinorice Moss (2nd Rd)
Greg Olsen (1st Rd)
Kevin Everett (3rd Rd)

From 2002-04

That’s not including playing w/ Willis McGahee, and Frank
Gore.

Also, it’s clearly a different era. Just looking at raw #’s w/ zero context r simply empty stats. We know it’s a different era by rules of the game, which is why is more impressive to see guys put up big #’s yesteryear vs. today b/c u can’t touch WRs & they have very little fear of going across the middle b/c they won’t get blown up like yesteryear.

That’s no disrespect to X vs. understanding the nuanced change where receivers r much more free to roam about than year

Parrish.

While X is and will be an asset to any team, great slot receivers are not THAT rare.

However, we really have not seen a return man/athlete like Parrish or Hester in a long time. I'm not really sure if anyone to name in a Canes uniform as of late comes close. Jeff thomas maybe? But he never really lived up to the hype
Truer words have never been said around here lately. We currently don't have that dynamic athlete at WR anymore. We have two at running back but we won't use them bc they're too "small".

Those are tight ends. I’m talking wide receivers. You listed Sinorice Moss, who had 492 yards total in the three years he played with Roscoe.

It was a thin room behind Andre. If the implication is that the tight ends took Roscoe’s targets, it doesn’t explain why Ryan Moore had twice as many receiving yards as him in 2003.

As for the idea of that he would have excelled with the rule changes, I think it’s overstated. Lamar Thomas was just as skinny as Roscoe and he set receiving records here.

Don't get me wrong, I wish we had Roscoe on this year’s team because of his unique game breaking ability. I can definitely buy he’s a better overall football player. But I don’t think he’d be our leading receiver, or anywhere close to the 1,500-yard season you projected. He never stood out in that category.
