DAILY DEBATE: Who is the best LB in Miami history?

Morgan.

Top 2 isn’t much of a debate - Morgan and Lewis. Where it gets more interesting is who is #3.

Had armstead not torn his knee, it would have been him imo.

Might have to pick from Darrin smith or barrow.

I used to lug my camera around back in the day.
1992. Blacksburg.
Crazy that those 3 played together.

We've had so many great backers and so many under the radar guys like Winston Moss, Maurice Crum, Corwin Francis, etc. But Morgan was probably the most consistent. He always showed up, especially in the big games. Him and Ray Lewis are neck and neck.

Fun fact: if Coker and Shannon had their way Morgan would have gone back to OLB and DJ would have moved to the middle. DJ threatened to transfer over this (and other reasons) and coaches relented and let him stay on the outside and Morgan stay in the middle. That worked out okay.

And Otis Anderson has 371 more yards on 217 more carries than Edgerrin James while playing one more season. Does having better overall stats alone make him better?

Jacorey Harris is #2 all time in passing yards at UM and he’s #1 all time in completions… does the stats alone make him the best or one of the top 3 QBs to play at UM?
Nope. But stats help identify exceptional play and Morgan’s stats are unmatched.

That would make Dan the most decorated UM LB no argument there. Dan winning those awards means there wasn’t a better defensive player/LB in college football his Senior year… doesn’t necessarily mean he was better than Ray. He was better than everyone who played in the 99-00 football season. Now if your assertion is you watched them both play and Dan was better because he did “a,b and c” better on the field along with the awards then cool.
Cool but that’s got nothing to do with you comparing Dan Morgan to Xavier Restrepo. Morgan is, at worst, the second best linebacker at Miami ever. Restrepo is a great player but he’s not even a top 5 Miami receiver.
