DAILY DEBATE: Who are you most looking forward to watching against Bethune Cookman?

Miami - Lofton and Wiley (edit: adding Fitzgerald)

FIU - Edwin Pata

Beck getting more comfortable with the receivers.

We got the ball first coming out of the half, up 14-7, and on the drive down to make it 21-7, Beck threw 4 passes.

Over the next full quarter and a half, he threw the ball 6 times. Had 20 throws in the first half, and 10 in the second half. We're not beating everyone on our schedule going into a shell like that on offense with a 14 point lead. I get the reasons why, even though I don't fully agree with them. And we won the game, so it's great.

But this dude is a polished QB, a smart, cerebral kid with all the talent in the world. You didn't bring him here to turn him into Emory Williams in the 2nd half of games. The more reps he can get with the WRs, the more they're going to trust the entire passing offense. So I'd be OK with us coming out and throwing it 30 times in the first half against Bethune. Treat it like a live 7-on-7 game.
legit inquiry, is ND the best secondary we face all season? I know there is a chance of the QB just having an off game, it happens, but who else on the sched has a great secondary or rather the secondary is their strength that we would want to avoid or game plan around?

UF? Pitt? NC State?

I dont think Stanford, USF, Bethune, SMU, Va Tech, Lville, Cuse or FSU have great DB core but I could be wrong

As far as who I want to see most its probably Wiley on Defense and Schott on O.

Since Mario always plays the best guys...looking forward to seeing the guys that aren't the best.

A running clock during the coin toss. NO INJURIES! LUKE. *******. NICKEL. Every QB gets 1 qtr apiece. Develope our ******* qbs please ****. The level of comp won't help but it at least gives them a chance to experience live reps & most of the intricacies & pitfalls of running an offense in game. Not to mention playing with real players instead of walk-ons.

Also all the young pass rushers, although I don't think Bethune will give em many opportunities.

Need more consistency with the WRs, they struggled to get open against ND (probably one of, if not THE best secondary in the country to be fair), and not much of a vertical passing attack. All eyes on JoJo here the next two weeks - I get he missed most of camp, but if he’s out there, he needs to be more explosive and reliable.

Bell needs to be better on the OL. I was going to post a long thread blasting his slow footwork and how he continuously got beat Sunday, but it’s game 1 and I’m choosing to focus on the more positive side for now. He graded poorly on PFF in both run and pass blocking. Need to build his confidence up some more, but here’s two examples on the two TD throws where he gets absolutely cooked.

At this point, he is nowhere close to ready for the NFL. I can find at least 4 more videos of some slow footwork and lack of bend. Our left side is a concern overall, as it seems like McCoy was benched in favor of Samson (who graded out decently by the way), and Rodriguez seems to be passed up.

Most glaring need is a diverse run game, and a more efficient one. Only 2.9 ypc against an ND front that’s barely T25 in the country. Marty brown probably worked for 30% of those yards after contact too, need to be much better at getting push at the LOS.

On the Defensive side, we have to tackle better. I was shocked how poor our tackling grade was against ND, but after rewatching the game, it’s valid. Tons of missed tackles (and yet they still played very well overall). Toure missed a bunch, and Poyser as well. Need those two to continue getting better week over week.

Lastly, need more from Justin Scott. Out snapped nearly 2-1 by Moten (who played very well), but this DL will go to the next level if Scott can become an all-conference type interior lineman.
