DAILY DEBATE: What is the key matchup against the Gators?

Our DL is the strength of the team (by many accounts) and will make our OL better through competition; it starts up front and everything else is an extension of how we dominate the trenches. Cam functions as a ballast that cancels a lot of intangible deviations, IMO (coaching, leadership, execution, etc..). So every week our DL match-up should be the beginning of a win or a loss.

As long as it ends with Mario telling Billy this I don't care how we get there...

@DMoney could you make the fall camp schedule a sticky thread/post? or possibly make all Fall camp posts a sub-thread under Eye in the Sky?.

As much as I like Cooper, the IOL will have their hands full in the run game. Florida will field multiple defensive tackles over 360lb. I’m more interested in Dawson run scheme this game. He will obviously test the waters but he has to have some designs to be effective in the run besides inside zone

Our kids vs. themselves. There will be some adversity during the game and we have to quit the bad habit of compounding problems. Giving up a big play or missing a sack, etc.. is going to happen. Just don't make the problem worse by getting a stupid 15 yarder because you're upset. Rivalry games like this always have some crazy ish happen and we can't let our emotions cost us like they have in the past.

Their WRs vs. our DBs.

This is the one matchup that they have a real opportunity. If we hold our own here, we win comfortably. Allow their WRs space, and this becomes a dogfight.

If the Canes have good tackling on the dink and dunks and on the RB then UF is probably cooked.

In that scenario, then expect Mertz to be rushed by our D line. Expect questionable calls for roughing the passer.

Even at the Swamp, we don't need Killa Kam to beat these schmucks.

Clean Cam will do.

Make some plays with his arm and/feet and avoid the costly unforced turnover (which he didn't always do at Wazzu) and we're putting two more nails in the lid of Napier's coffin.

(and as @Hurracanes and @Luke Caneswalker alluded, be solid in the special teams)

Cam Ward vs Graham Metrz
"It will always fuel me for the rest of my life," Ward said at ACC Media Days in late July. "I know what I was thinking and feeling at that time in my life and I don't ever want to go back to that. Every day I step on the field, whether it is a practice or a game, I remind myself where I came from and how I got here and all the coaches that overlooked me. There are coaches in this building today who wouldn't give me a chance when I was in the portal. There are players that I am walking past who were rated higher than me in high school. They don't know that, but I know that. I always keep that with me. I play with a lot of hate in my heart and it is the good kind of hate. I don't really give a [crap] what anybody has to say about me. The only opinion that matters to me is my mom and dad and the guys in the locker room and the coaching staff."

No one really knows what is going to happen in this game. Miami could win by 10 or lose by 2. I read the comments about all the advantages Miami has over Florida, and while that may be true, that still doesnt guarantee a W. I would be very happy and excited for a W. At the same time I would not be surprised(sad and disappointed for sure) with an L.
