The Clemson model of relying almost exclusively on high school recruiting can work, but the margin for error is narrow.

The model breaks down if other teams start pilfering Clemson's roster and the Tigers don't use the portal in response. It's the same effect as an NCAA scholarship reduction at that point.

I don't see how it works. A couple of bad evals or injuries and you sacrifice the entire team.

The idea that players should be forced to stay at a a school when coaches can leave whenever they want is absolutely ridiculous. “But he had a contract!” So did every coach who got fired or left for another job. If a school or coach wants to break a contract, all they have to do is pay the buyout money. Why would players be forced to stay when literally nobody else is?

It works only if you hit on the vast majority of your evals, every year. So still technically feasible.
