The Defense was not the problem and if you think that you are not very bright. L'ville had less than 250 yds going into the 4 the qtr. We had multiple sacks, TFLs and forced TOs. That's good enough.
I didn't like the 3 man rushes, soft zones or Kirby being out there at all but we didn't yield much. The problem is when they moved the ball it looked easy but that doesn't take away from the results through 3 qtrs.
The problem is the offense. 4 consecutive 3/4 play drives coming out of the locker room sucked the life out of the D. Game over, this is on two men, Al Golden and James Coley.
It was good enough for yesterday. It is not good enough against better competition and certainly not as we expect to move forward toward Championship (Conference, at least) success. Louisville is not a great team and they made a lot of mistakes last night - dropped balls, etc.
I don't disagree that the offense is a problem. I simply disagree that the defense we saw last night is good enough going forward. At base, it lacks sufficient disruption. That's like looking at last year's UF game and saying "hey, we got TOs, some sacks and made plays when we needed to - that's enough." Yep. For that one game. It is a reaction to a specific game rather than a look at whether the concepts will hold up in future scenarios.
You have to tell me where I said it was good enough for the rest of the season? Was it good enough to win last night? Yes it was and you can't tell me that it wasn't. Causing 2 TOs in the opponents RZ is not only stopping teams, but putting points on the board for us. Again if you read my post, I didn't like a lot of the things that Dnfr did, but I'm not having a global scheme discussion.
I don't like what we do either. But our interior was markedly better and Kamulu, Chick and McCord all played well. AQM makes a bit of a difference and I think that's why you saw so many 3 man fronts, we didn't have another edge rusher (Chad?) opposite of TMc. Again, not my thoughts but theirs. Dropped passes happen all of the time and it's part of the game so I don't see how that's a point seeing that our one dropped pass changed the trajectory of the game. They usually wind up evening out as do penalties.
Acting like a L'ville led Petrino teams sucks doesn't make much sense to me. If they were in the Coastal they'd win it this year. Offense was the problem last night and the defense was gassed from not coming off the field in the 3rd qtr.
