Have any of you guys heard any rumblings or anything at all that Herman is interested in Miami or we are interested in him?

I don't know but I think the bigger question is who is Miami and the search committee interested in. We are Miami, so if we contact Herman's agent then he will listen. My fear is the search committee will overreact and classify him as unproven as they try and not repeat the Golden mistake. I really like Herman and would have ranked him number one if Butch wasn't a possibility.

What would make things worse is if the decision makers classify Herman as unproven because of his limited head-coaching experience, but prop up Cristobal because he was a head coach at FIU for 6 years. They'd have to completely ignore his 27-47 record, but with our luck that's what will happen.

Herman is unproven. Mario on the other hand has proven he sucks. Don't want either one of them.

Already had a preference thread just like this.

Shoot for the moon:

Bill Belichick
Bill Walsh
Vince Lombardi, but only if Dan Coryell agrees to be his OC

If somehow we fail to hit on one those guys, then I guess I'd settle for:

John Harbaugh
Sean Payton
Chip Kelly

If the UM Administration is such an abject failure that they can't convince those guys that this is the obvious choice for their happiness:

Gary Patterson
Jim Harbaugh
Mike Gundy
Dan Mullen

If, for whatever reason, the world comes crashing down and it comes down to guys who have expressed interest or I've heard mention in terms of our interest:

Butch (depending on coordinator plan)
Herman (depending on organizational and recruiting plan, could be #1 )
Fuente (though some say he's not interested)
Hue Jackson (though we may have missed this opportunity)

It's pretty well known that Coryell wants a HC gig. Get it together Lu.

I think Adidas will have some play in this. Why I think Mullen is a big player. I'm scared that this committee got Strong to Texas. I believe Texas has made some sort of contact with Herman, and he ends up at UT, and we somehow get stuck with Strong. When you mentioned Meacham, I immediately thought that he would replace Herman or Gundy, should they leave. Great stuff!
1. Mullen
2. Gundy
3. Herman
4. Butch

After Patterson or Gundy, I go with

Herman
Butch
Vince Lombardi or some other dead guy. After all, Miami hired Golden. Why not give a dead guy a chance?

Who we want is not relevant, its who is likely to come. Its unlikely that Herman and Fuente are interested. If they really wanted Butch, he would already be hired. So basically, the new coach is likely to be someone that we are NOT currently talking about.

p.s. Kyle convinced me that Herman is the guy, but I think he will get huge $ elsewhere.

To me you call guys like Gundy and Patterson first, if they say no then I want either Herman or Butch

1. Patterson
2. Gundy
3. Herman
4. Butch (only reason he's 4th is because I know he would take the job)

Also to CIS Guys. How do YOU see this playing out in terms of time frame? Any guesses?

Still got a while to go IMO. 3 weeks minimum IMO. and if Charlie wants the job (and we want him) it might be a bit longer since his last game is on 12/5

If Its a coach that's active.. then not until their reg season is over..

If its Butch... then after the Pitt Game... IMO

JC

I agree that a Butch hire would come sooner, but they will not offer Butch without first interviewing at least 4-5 other candidates. If any of those other guys are currently HCs in college football, those interviews will not take place until after the Pitt game.

What I've found so disconcerting about some of the persistent Mario rumors (PR machine) is that it would buck the expectation that this will be a thorough search.

The committee and admin absolutely need to show a thorough search this time around. If they fake it, it won't work. Fans are already skeptical.

Yeah, some folks are just 'hard of seeing'

And how the heck do you have Gary Patterson 7th. I don't care who is in front of him, haven't you tried his chicken sh*t salad?

Patterson
Herman
Butch

I would add Chip Kelly to the top of the list, but I believe he has a show cause letter.

IMO there's no way they and the search committee can come to the conclusion that Mario is in any way, shape or form the best hire. I think that would expose them for not doing a thorough job. I just don't see this search committee associating themselves with a Mario hire. In the end they won't have a say in the matter but it just doesn't make sense to me to hire a search committee only to hire Mario.

But then again we are talking about the same clowns that have failed miserably twice so who knows

Butch
Herman
Strong

I like Fuente but I've heard rumors he's not interested.

I still don't understand how you can have Strong on your list at all, given what he's done at Texas. I understand the fit is terrible but his performances are inexcusable.
