D$ et al -- How did Jarren Williams do on the scout team?

Normally, I would be super worried that a heralded kid like Williams, known for his accuracy and quick release, can't come in and take reps from what we saw on the field in Perry and Rosier. But given how messed up that QB room was under the Richts, maybe they had other worries than capability, such as Perry and Weldon transferring out or the OL being so bad they would get him killed before he had more S&C time? I don't know.

But it does beg the question, how good did Williams look in practice? I believe he was the scout team QB the whole season, right? Coaches and observers should have see a lot of him to judge his ability. Anyone with any insights?

There were rumors he didn't take it as serious as he sholud have and gained some weight. Again i just remember reading something like that from somewhere.

Thought it was a matter of him realizing that no matter what he did he'd still be behind Malik and the pornstar. Even when Richt would tell him he'd get to play. Nothing.
 
I remember a Barry Jackson article saying Williams was the most accurate of the qbs in practice. Even if he was less experienced than the the other qbs Richt should have given him a chance to show what he could do in light of the poor play of Rosier and Perry.

I just can’t wait to see us swing the ball to our speedsters in space. It’s going to be so beautful to finally be up with the times.
 
I didn't see him on scout team, but Jarren was the most impressive QB in spring. That was the only time he got major reps with the 2s because Weldon had an eye infection.

These are the officially released stats for all 3 spring scrimmages (credit to @Astcloud11):

Malik Rosier -- 20 for 35 (57.1 percent), 296 yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 interception
N'Kosi Perry -- 24 for 50 (48.0 percent), 253 yards, 1 touchdown, 2 interceptions
Cade Weldon -- 9 for 12 (75.0 percent), 113 yards (Note: missed two scrimmages with eye infection)
Jarren Williams -- 17 for 25 (68.0 percent), 224 yards, 3 touchdowns

Even when Jarren was going 3s on 3s, he was marching up the field with walk-ons. Of course, he was going against third-teamers, but typically the offense has a harder time in that scenario.

We did not give Jarren enough reps when Weldon came back. By the time fall camp rolled around, he was out of shape and (IMO) disillusioned. He probably thought he did not get a fair opportunity. As a result, his performance wasn't as good. Rosier had a strong camp and the rest is history.

Greentree is limited for QBs because they don't get hit. We won't know what Jarren is until he plays real games. But he's big, he has a strong arm and most importantly he is decisive. He trusts what he sees and doesn't flinch. I am praying he keeps working and gets a fair shot because he has legit tools.
 
Pretty clear none of the QB's got a fair chance.

-Entirely unqualified and awful QB coach.
-Dated, simplistic playbook.
-Awul OL play.
-Receivers dropping everything thrown their way.

Absolutely need a clean slate with QB's in addition to 1-2 transfers at the position.

Jarren is by far and away the best QB on the roster. Richt OBVIOUSLY had no idea what he was doing all year. Anyone at the spring game could see it clear as day. He sees the field, has the touch, has the pocket awareness, and has the tools. He has good but not great accuracy. That was also apparent in the AA game.
CMR was facinated with Perry’s arm and convinced himself he could get him to make the right decisions and checks. I believe that’s why the offense was dumbed down more than ever this season. Richt was wrong and got extremely frustrated he couldn’t control it. End of story.

I get that it sucked no doubt, but you can't let yourself go. I mean he's an 18 year old kid who just learned a valuable lesson about how quickly things can change and he should always be ready. he just has some catching up to do now with conditioning.
