CW costing us money?

So now you will pick and choose what to read, as well as pick and choose your own conclusions?

I'm not trying to argue with you, but the only negative impact on "eyeballs on the game" will be the fact that UGa-Tennessee is on at almost the exact same time.

The CW took a chance on UM-USF and it paid off. Other networks underestimated this game at their peril. It's an OOC game, so the ACC can do nothing.

It sucks, but it is what it is. And a bunch of CIS posters acting like they've never even heard of The CW isn't helping matters.
Fine. I read your whole thing.

Again. I don’t disagree with most of what you’re saying, but you’re arguing against things I never was. All, and I do mean ALL, I was saying is that this attitude in this thread that the CW being available nationally even via antenna is some kind of rebuttal to it sucking that this game is on that station (in terms of national viewership) is a flawed one. Casual college football fans are NOT going to go to the CW, they’re going to see Georgia Tennessee or Pitt WVU on ABC/ESPN and leave it there.

Like you said, there’s a lot of factors going into why this game is on the CW and I don’t disagree with that at all. But posters on a college football message board acting like their viewing habits are indicative of the general public is insane.

Playing the if we were in the Big 10 game, Fox and CBS both grabbed conference games while NBC punted their window for the week to put ND in primetime. It’s likely the game would’ve been on Peacock, FS1, or BTN when assignments were made in the spring.

Fine. I read your whole thing.

My sentiments exactly. Let’s see what the CW viewership numbers look like after the Saturday games.

Very fair points.

And while any one of us can respond to any individual directly with a quote, I was also responding to the thread as a whole. The original poster said that The CW was costing us a lot of money. And many posters bemoaned the network itself, acting as if it wasn't readily available.

And you are correct, viewers do not as strongly associate The CW with broadcasting college football, not as much as they do with ESPN.

I just don't know what our options are. As conferences get bigger, the likelihood that ESPN or Fox can fill 3 (or MAYBE 4) timeslots with good conference games increases. So your chances of an ESPN picking up an OOC game are lower, not to mention that USF has gone from complete AAC obscurity to "Top 25 team" in a very short period of time.

Heck, you'll even find a couple of my posts which MOCK the announcement of The CW as one of the friendly ACC-curious networks which might be carrying a couple of our games each year. I'd definitely prefer something better.

Which is why we need to join a P2 conference ASAFP.

I ain’t reading all that lol, I probably don’t even disagree with you.

I read the thread. Only thing that I’m talking about is the “football fans will find the games”, “CW is more widely available than ESPN” nonsense. Not saying anything could be done about it in this instance. But it definitely matters and will be a negative impact in terms of eyeballs on the game.
CW is more widely available than ESPN. that is factual. is there something with facts you do not like?

just go to the game. why do you care what channel its on if youre in attendance? everyone gets CW. everyone can watch it nationally. if people want to watch miami football nationally, they will find the game just the way they find their games on ESPN Plus (through an APP) or an NFL game on youtube only, peacock only, netflix only, etc.

this is the new wave of sports viewing habits. the traditional methods are done. soon, itll be streaming only and off all traditional air.

most IG account weekend matchups "to watch" have us as the #1 or #2 option.... I think we covered the fact that CW is actually widely available for everyone across the country..... I predict us to be the #2-#4 watched game this weekend....

Two comments could not more thoroughly prove my point and highlight the stupidity of the argument so many are making here.

“CW is more widely available”

Literally mentioned that repeatedly. But that’s not the point. The point is ESPN still runs laps around CW in terms of viewership in the same windows because casual college football fans, the type that really care about their team and just toss on whatever on the other windows on Saturday, are still turning on ESPN.

“Just go to the game”

Dumbest response yet in a thread about TV viewers.

“if people want to watch miami football nationally, they will find the game just the way they find their games on ESPN”

Again. Since you can’t seem to wrap your head around this. I’m not talking about Miami fans. I’m not talking about the more in tune college football fans that are actively seeking out certain matchups. I’m talking about the general public who is just tuning into ABC or ESPN.

“this is the new wave of sports viewing habits. the traditional methods are done. soon, itll be streaming only and off all traditional air.”

Old people still watch tv. And they watch it in much bigger numbers than young people who have fully adopted streaming. To act like that demographic doesn’t drive viewership numbers is a chronically online out of touch take.

But let’s say this last point makes any sense and is true. You do understand you just made an argument against the CW, right? Because those that have truly cord cut (not YTTV or Hulu TV or Fubo users that think they’re cord cutting, I mean true cord cutters), are just bundling up the streaming services they use, and CW isn’t on the ESPN app, it’s not on the Fox Sports app, etc. So they have even less of a chance of being exposed to anything on CW.

Cw has their own app where you can stream their stuff

So this thing has gone on for 5 pages because casual fans may or may not find the game? I think we'll be okay.

You can watch CW for free with an antenna or even on your roku. Anybody can access the game at the mighty sum of zero. ESPN obviously isn't free and obviously more people watch it. So what?
Literally not true but cool story bro…

Cw has their own app where you can stream their stuff
Are you guys really this dense? Even if that were true (as someone else pointed out, I don’t think their app has live streams for sports), it’s still a separate app from what the general public is opening to watch football on Saturdays.

But whatever. We’ll be like the 6th highest viewed game this weekend at best, and everyone can come up with the next reason for why that’s the case.

Not going to argue. Just want to reiterate, The CW App is actually a broadcast app. You can watch the game live on The CW app.

But I agree, it's not the most commonly-thought-of solution. This is true.

Gee, bro, I don't know or know what to tell you. Watched most of SMU vs Baylor on my buddies TV with roku on CW app.

Wasnt available for everyone. I had to illegally stream that game because all that was on the app was acc condensed games from the week before. Even now I can go check the sports schedule for this weekend and it’s just nascar and bull riding.

Here is what Grok had to say about it….

Oh, the great SMU-Baylor CW app fiasco? Buckle up, because this one’s a perfect storm of broadcast black holes, regional ****ery, and streaming gremlins that left fans screaming into the void on September 6, 2025. That thriller ended 48-45 in double OT with Baylor stealing it on a last-second field goal, but half the diehards couldn’t even catch the chaos because the CW app decided to ghost them. Here’s the unhinged breakdown of why everyone’s losing their ****:

• Regional Affiliate Blackout Bull****: Picture this—Waco (Baylor’s turf) straight-up lacks a CW affiliate, turning the whole area into a dead zone for over-the-air or basic cable viewers. Folks on Fubo or YouTube TV in that pocket of Texas got screwed hardest; the game popped up fine elsewhere, but not there. One Redditor in r/Waco summed it up: “Waco doesn’t have a CW affiliate so if you have Fubo you can’t watch the game.” Cue the rage—fans scrambling for VPNs or pirate streams like it’s 2010. It’s like the universe said, “Nah, y’all don’t deserve this nail-biter.”

• CW App’s Glitchy Gatekeeping: The app’s supposed to be your savior for live CW sports, but it flaked out for tons of users. Geo-restrictions kicked in hard—login with a local IP, and boom, “not available in your area” because of those affiliate voids. Even if you had the right creds, buffering **** or outright no-stream errors hit during peak drama (like those late TDs). Complaints exploded on Reddit and forums: “Disappointed with the lack of airing for Baylor,” one fan vented, while others *****ed about the app’s “digital streaming options” being a lie. Pro tip from the chaos: It worked better via the CW website or third-party apps like Fubo, but who reads the fine print mid-meltdown?

• Streaming Service Shenanigans: Big 12 and ACC crossovers like this get funneled to CW for the “free” broadcast vibe, but services like Fubo (which carries CW) still trip over local blackouts. No affiliate? No stream. Add in the early 11 a.m. CT kickoff, and East Coast folks syncing to 12 p.m. ET got extra layers of timezone/app sync fails. ESPN recaps hyped the 1M+ viewers on CW linear TV (peaking at 2M!), but app dropouts meant the online crowd felt robbed. ****, even the post-game buzz was tainted—Baylor fans celebrating a massive upset, SMU stans salty about the collapse, but a chunk yelling, “WHERE’S THE REPLAY?!”

Bottom line: It’s the classic combo of outdated broadcast maps clashing with modern “anywhere” expectations. CW’s trying to expand CFB coverage (this game drew huge numbers overall), but until they nuke the affiliate nonsense, expect more app tantrums.

"Wasnt available for everyone." Well, I hope Canes fans have no issues with it this week.

Gotcha. I remember when they started broadcasting basketball live streaming wasn’t on their app, had Fubo (I think, maybe something else) at the time which didn’t have the local CW station and remember being annoyed by having to find an alternate route.
